Risky Business Stressing Me Out

I haven't posted on here yet, but I've enjoyed reading everyone's threads. I'm 32w 1d with a bicornuate uterus. Yesterday baby measured at 35w 4d, 5 lbs 4 oz and is head down. The gestational age is correct because I charted my cycles, but he's growing so fast that he's at risk for distress if he grows too large. We will for sure be inducing at 37 weeks, possibly earlier if he has too large of a growth spurt. Steroids will help some but I'm most concerned about his lung function if we deliver any earlier than that. Any advice or prayers would be welcome.

  • Oh jeez! I have no experience with this at all! Sorry! But I do so hope everything goes well with the remainder of your pregnancy and for the babies and your health afterwards! T&ps !!!
  • I was born at 34 weeks. I had to be in an incubator for a few weeks because of lung issues... my mother tells me my lungs were still "wet" (whatever that means), but there were no lasting effects and everything turned out just fine. And that was almost 30 years ago, in a hospital in a rural area. Try not to worry, I'm sure your baby will be just fine!

Ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate for estimating fetal weight. Your doctor should have scheduled you for a follow up ultrasound in a few weeks to check on growth. Will that be happening?

I know it's difficult but try not to stress out. At this point it isn't certain that you will be induced at 37 weeks. And if your doctor told you otherwise, I would be really concerned about the level of care you're receiving.

If you're looking for anecdotes, my husband was born at 34 weeks 30 years ago, his brother was born at 36 weeks. Both are healthy, intelligent men and they were perfectly healthy children as well. Medicine has come even farther in the ensuing years, try not to worry.

I'm in the hospital now for possible preeclampsia and the doctor just told me 34 weeks and later they won't even give the steroid and if the babies are delivered at 35 or later they probably will go straight home rather than the NICU.
  • That size sounds right for gestational age... I have a didelphic uterus, so can relate to the fear. Inducing early is really not the best option for baby just based on a size estimate (which is what I understand from your post). They thought my son was 8 lbs when I hit 38 weeks with him so we induced, he was born at 6 lbs even. Hang in there and try to relax.
