Using boy name for girl #3

We are having the hardest time coming up with a name for DD#3. My H suggested using our previously picked out boy name of Landon for her and giving her a feminine middle name, but I am unsure.

I've come up with Landon Corinne, but I'm looking for other suggestions to middle names as well!

  • I kinda like male names for girls (our top two are Avery and Reese), but I really don't think Landon fits a girl at all. Sorry to rain on your parade! keep in mind that she'll never introduce herself with her middle name so the feminine mn balancing out the first name isn't going to play into it at all in real life.
  • I really really don't like Landon for a girl. There are so many nice girls names, I would keep trying to find one!!!

  • As an alternative, Logan? I have a nephew named Logan, but I'm hearing it more and more for girls these days.

  • Just threw it out there for her to decide. She likes boy names for girls and I've been hearing that one a lot lately.
  • I do like boy names for girls, but didn't know if that was too out there. That's why I thought I'd throw it out there on this board. Thanks for the suggestions.

I do love Corinne though, and would love to use that either as a first or middle name. I just need to get H on board.

  • Why would you do that to a little girl? Why give her that hurdle to have to get through for her life, just because you can't come up with a girls name you like? Not cool. There are a million girls names out there.

Landon is terrible for a girl, and going by a male nn is completely different, you have a choice.

I agree completely. Going by a male NN and have a traditional boy's name as your full, legal name are two different things. You choose to use a male NN. I wouldn't put Landon on a girl, keep pushing for Corinne as a FN.

It was an option my H suggested, because it was a name we loved and agreed on. We weren't set on it. I came here for a different perspective and appreciate the opinions and suggestions other PPs gave.

I agree that Landon doesn't seem right for a girl (though I DO like boy names on girls). However, I don't see it being a "hurdle." As a teacher, I see more and more girls with boy names and they never get teased or picked on. It's pretty accepted these days.
  • Not sure if you like any of these, but here are my suggestions based on your other DDs:

    Eden
    Wren
    Delaney
    Sage
    Arden
    Adelynn
    Ivy
    Cora
  • Not only is it bad for a girl, it's way too close to Leighton. Go for something more unisex: Morgan, Avery, Erin, Frances, Kelly, Reese
  • While I don't mind boy names on girls, I don't really like Landon.  What about Lennon?

  • I agree with pp that Landon and Leighton are a little too close, makes them sound matchy

Some suggestions that I think are the style your going for...

    Avery
    Aubrey
    Harper
    Aria
    Reese
    Quinn
    Brynn
    Kylie
    Gemma
    Ainsley
    Marley
    Wren
    Adeline
    Willa
  • I don't mind some of the more "unisex" names, but Landon isn't great. I'd consider London instead.

That's cool. =) if there was any possible nickname for my name I would have chosen the most masculine one. But here's the deal: your daughter may or may not be like you. Let HER make the choice and don't force it on her!

  • LOVE Corrine....talk him into it
  • I'm firmly in the "I like boy names for girls" camp, but I don't really love Landon for either. Good luck!

  • Terrible. I think Lindy is even better than Landon.

    Leslie. Lani?
  • I've never understand why people do this.  It seems like cruel and unusual punishment to me.  There are so many amazing girl names I don't see the need to give a boy name to a girl.

A hurdle to have to get through in life. Lmao, exaggerate much? Op I don't love it and I am normally a fan of boy names for girls. Keep looking im sure you'll find something you love!

I did love the suggestions of London or Lennon.
  • Would you name your son Sarah? Well don't name your daughter Landon. It's ridiculous and cruel.

  • I like the name Landon. - never heard it for a girl before... but I like unisex names, and boy names for girls.    If you wanted to feminize it you could go with London.  There's a girl in my daughters class with that name is she is super adorable.

London Grace I think is super cute!

  • I don't think Landon works. I know I'm in the minority on this name, and oh well, but instead of Landon, what about London? Very similar but more feminine.
  • There are so many beautiful girl names out there. Give her a girl name, or at least a unisex name.

Good boy names are few and far between, IMO. So many of them have gone to the girls. It's pretty sad.

You could always spell it a little different. I am unsure but I think Landyn would be a prettier spelling for a girl. I do know a girl named Landi and a girl named Landry, those could be a slight variation from your pick. I am all for boy girl names though. Our second choice name for our little girl was Blake. I think if you pair it with a very feminine middle name it works. I also know a little girl named Kyle, which I did not like at all at first, but once she was born I could not picture her being anything else. You and your husband are the only opinions that matter! I have heard FAR WORSE name choices!

Never misspell a name good grief. Life is far more than mom and dad and what they like. Mom and dad don't get you a job or follow you around your entire life to confirm it's a great name despite what they encounter in everyday life

Adding a y does not make a name more feminine, it makes the parents look uneducated.

  • You had Landon picked out for a boy and are having a girl instead. So you can't take the time to name a girl so you're just gonna throw that name at her instead? Wow I'd be so pissed st my parents for doing that. Cause you know one day it gonna leak out how she got named....
Please don't do that to her!
