Pregnant after IF

Total newb questions...

So I am curious how long after your first BETA did you have to continue injections?
How did they figure out how many weeks you are? LMP like a typical pregnancy, fertilization date or transfer date?
Thanks!

Re: Total newb questions...

  • You can use the fertilization date as your conception date (date of ovulation which for pregnancy calculations is day 14) so that would be 2 weeks...so 2 weeks from fert date is 4 weeks. Does that make sense?
  • Ok thanks!

  • The length of PIO shots varies from doctor to doctor. I had to continue through 16w which sucked. My clinic goes a lot longer in DE and FET cycles (and I was DE). I think things have changed even in the last year or so and REs seem to be weaning off PIO more quickly than before.

  • I liked this link for estimating everything.  And when my RE gave me my due date after my first u/s, it turned out accurate.  I had an extra hard time calculating since I did FET.  I like that this has an IVF transfer date option.

For me, I did PIO until I was 8 weeks pregnant, and then they switched me to oral progesterone.  I had some spotting at 7-8 weeks, so I still did PIO for a few extra days in wk 8 (until it ran out).

  • I did an FET and continued PIO and del estrogen until 10 weeks. My RE gave me the option of switching to inserts 3x a day around 7-8 weeks, but I stuck with the injections since I'd previously done inserts once and twice a day and found the mess disgusting, never mind 3x a day.

  • I continued Estrace through week 8-9 and was on my PIO until just shy of 12 weeks.

I just made sure to tell my OB, when I graduated from the RE, what my "lmp" was based off of 2 weeks prior to the fert date. My fert date was August 24, so I just told them my LMP was August 10.

I stayed on the pio until blood tests showed my body was making its own, around twelve weeks. Re had told me to quit weeks before. I don't understand how they calculate dates for a FET, because I was off by two days using the obvious math. Apparently they deduct some time for freezing. :-/

  • @pblge I think if your embryos were frozen on day 3 or 5 (or whatever day it was), they count back that many days prior to your FET as the ovulation date. For example, mine were frozen on day 5. My FET was on a Thursday, so they used the prior Saturday as the ovulation date to calculate the EDD. I was able to put that date in an online calculator and get the same EDD as the RE.

  • My RE just told me to quit PIO yesterday at 8 weeks. I"m blatantly ignoring him. Seems way too early to me and with my first cycle he kept me on  until 11 weeks. I am keeping myself on until at least 10 weeks and then I will reevaluate!

Yeah, the doctors did it differently! Maybe this clinic was just an outlier. I had a six day transfer, and when I tried to just pretend that I was six dpo like a normal woman they told me I was two days off. Maybe just my clinic?? :-/

Hmmm... I think sometimes for 6 days they'll put in for 5 days, but in the end 2 days doesn't matter that much. The nurses at my OB's office didn't quite get the FET date thing and went by the date I stopped bcp around when I had some bleeding, but wasn't even technically my LMP since that would've been when I started the bcp's I guess. So anyway, they calculated me 3 days earlier, which is fine by me!  =D>

I totally agree, but it hurt at the time! In those super early weeks, two days feels like an eternity!

Now I'm wondering if other doctors would have my EDD two days earlier than it is. :-/ That would a) put me in the third tri now, and b) make our EDD an amusing April 15th. Awww....our little tax deduction!!

  • Thank you @gsancho‌ and @katers79‌ for the charts! According to the calculater I am 4w 6d with an EDD of 9/26. :) 26 has been a lucky number for MH and I. So that's pretty cool!
