Diapers?!?

I know it's all about preference, but which brands do you prefer and why? Also, how do you know when to change to the next size of diaper? I think my daughter has out grown the newborn size, but I have a whole case and I don't want to trash them.

Re: Diapers?!?

  • Pampers- they are not the least expensive but even my cheap friends buy then because nothing compares. You should be able to cross the tabs in front and when you can't, next size. They overlap weight and if you don't want a mess, it can never hurt to go bigger! You could use the old ones when you are just at home and not worried if you get a blowout or pass them along to a friend.
  • If you haven't opened the box yet, take them to Walmart and exchange them for a size bigger. I have done it without receipt.

  • We're using honest company diapers. A friend gave me a big GC for the site so I used it for diapers, and I LOVE them.

Can't answer about the size because we're still in N and haven't moved up yet.

  • The package should say the weight range for the diaper size. Each baby fits them slightly different. If you have an unopened box, I would get a size 1 if you don't think the newborn size fits anymore.

  • I'm currently using Pampers Swaddlers! I like them, but I just wanted to see what everyone else experienced. Thanks ladies!

  • Using pampers now but we swapped to target when my son was 4-5 months old and will likely do the same with this baby. As far as size, I knew for sure that it was time to move up when they started to leak...
  • I use Pampers mostly. I recently started using Luvs on DS and I'm happy with them.

The easiest way to tell if it's time to move up is if you are having leaks and blowouts. One blowout might just be a big poop but if you get 2 in one day or several leaks that means it's time to move up regardless of weight.

  • I'm with @MusicFanatic‌ I was gifted a one year supply of Honest diapers. So far I really like them.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Pampers Swaddlers here too. We're still in newborn. Tried a size 1 on her yesterday and even as snug as I could get it, there was a big gap at the top so we're not quite there yet and she's just under 8 lbs.

  • For the first few months I prefer pampers swaddlers. I feel they contain new born runny poop better. I did buy some huggies from a lady that was dirt cheap though.
I started cloth diapering ds3 at 2 months, and LOVED IT! I stopped back in June, only because I couldn't handle it anymore with being pregnant again. I need to strip them, and plan to cloth this baby around 2 months. I just didn't want to invest in a Nb stash.
Right now, since Owen is nearly 19 months, I use luvs or a cheap grocery store brand without any issue.
I won't use the "cheaper" diapers for a baby who hasn't started solids though.

  • I hate pampers. Love huggies until the cloth diapers fit. I swore by pampers until I tried huggies. Will never go back. I love that huggies has the sticky tabs to keep the front of the diaper from bunching for my older daughter (we use disposables at night and on trips).

  • We prefer cloth diapers, but use Seventh Generation when we use disposables. You'll know it's time to move up on size when your LO starts leaking often. For us, it's always been earlier than the weight recommendations, and long before LO physically cannot fit into the smaller size.
You can always gift unused diapers to a friend who has a younger baby, or donate them to a local women's shelter.
  • We're using Huggies, Luvs, and Pampers in NB size. They were all gifted and I plan on using them up. My husband loves the Luvs, I'm good with all 3. He has issues with leaks when he uses the Pampers and Huggies. He's not the best at diaper changes yet.

I have the Target brand in size 1, but we aren't ready to move up in size yet. A lot of my friends and family swear by them. I like the price, so I'm hoping they do the job. If not, we'll probably stick with Luvs since they are typically cheaper.

  • Pampers are my favorite, Huggies don't seem to fit my babies bodies very well. I use Pampers for newborn and then I will probably switch to Luvs which was my 2nd favorite brand with my dd.
  • We are stocking up on Pampers (baby isn't here yet) mainly b/c of what other mommas have said.  But my husband insisted on these b/c they have the indicator  for when to change the diaper on the outside, hehe. I thought that was cute.

Don't throw away the nb diapers! Find a friend that has a baby coming and gift them to her! We had a friend that did that.  Their daughter is 7 months now and she gave us a huge box of diapers that was barely used b/c her daughter had already outgrown them and she new we had a little one on the way. It was a great blessing! :-)

  • Cloth diapers here :) Target disposables on the rare occasion we do use them.

Huggies newborn diapers have the wetness indicator too.

  • For disposables, Honest diapers are great, so are Naty.
I am planning to start cloth soon (we cloth diapered with both girls), I just have to get them sorted and re-washed.

  • If anyone needs to stock up on diapers Target is having a pretty good deal right now! If you spend $100 on diapers, wipes or formula (Huggies, pampers, honest, up and up, similac and enfagrow brands) you get a $25 gift card to target plus you can print off coupons and take them in too! I think I'm doing that tomorrow (ends tomorrow) to load up on wipes !! (: just an fyi I know this stuff can get very expensive and if you have to buy it anyways why not get a gift card too (;
  • I use Pampers and have on all my kids.  I like the fit of them and they have leaked less for me than other brands.

When they pee through the diaper at night it's time to move up.  Don't even bother with the size recommendations on the front.  They are just a suggestion, not a steadfast rule.

  • We tried absolutely everything with my son. We are very much a Pampers family at this point. They really do work the best. Huggies work decent too, but for my son, they never fit him quite right. They also run a little smaller, so I would have had to move my son up a size earlier if we stuck with Huggies. That would have made them more expensive with less diapers in the larger size packages. I am assuming Pampers will work best for this LO too, but we will see.

  • Maybe I'm the only one, but I prefer Huggies because they don't have the weird smell that Pampers do (I think it comes from the absorbent beads). We use the Snug & Dry (cheaper line) and haven't had any problems, though we used cloth for the first 6 months so maybe their performance is different for younger babies.

  • I liked Pampers (newborn size) and then we used Luvs the rest of the time with DS. They're really affordable, especially with Amazon Mom and Subscribe & Save.

  • We started my son on pampers, then huggies and settled on luvs. Found they had more room and affordable. When you can't close the diaper well, or you notice it's getting tight/lines on his/her skin around legs or waist or it doesn't hold pee/poop blowouts I would go a size up. My son started at size 1, hospital said he had wide hips. You can return some unopened diapers or give to a friend. If you have a lot and know someone expecting you can do a diaper cake or something fun and crafty for their shower. Good luck!
  • Used huggies for my son and eventually switched to target. Using pampers with my daughter. I like huggies overnites for when they STTN.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • We used pampers at first and then found Target Up&Up brand to be awesome.  I got newborn pampers again, but Up&Up size 1.  We started cloth diapering as soon as LO fit into the onesize diapers we had purchased.

  • I was given a bunch of size 1 and 2 diapers at a shower, and I'm planning on passing most of them along since I'll be cloth diapering once she's big enough. Now I am a total FTM and I opened the size 1 box of Huggies because it said UP TO 15 pounds and thought maybe they're good to go from birth. But maybe I am totally wrong and need to go buy some NB size instead? Ugh.

You should be fine! I've always found that DD1 sizes out of Huggies way before the upper weight limit. The lower limit is a better indicator, I think. I have one small pack of newborn sized Huggies in case she comes early or is small, and the rest are all size ones.

We are using up all of our gifted diapers right now. Has anyone that uses Huggies noticed a burnt smell once baby soils the diaper? With my DD, I used Pampers, but we were gifted tons of Huggies for this baby and they all smell like burnt plastic once soiled. That can't be good. Anyone experience this?

  • Anyone have any reviews on Honest Company diapers? I got a bunch as a gift but have heard mixed things about them.
  • I love the Honest diapers. @mrsyoddtost‌ my kid has had some major bowel movements that were all liquid and we didn't have any issues with leakage.
  • I honestly don't have a huge preference on diapers and will use different brands. Huggies, pampers and Luvs are in constant rotation in our house.
