Hey ladies, I am thinking about getting an elective gender scan some time soon.

My anatomy scan is scheduled for the 3rd of feb, but we are getting ready to go on a family Disney vacation, and I would love to get baby stuff while we are there.

What are your thought? And please be gentle this is my first post ☺

  • I would personally wait but it's up to you? How far along are you? Maybe you could get some gender neutral items.

  • I would wait...though I know it's tempting! It'll be more accurate if you wait. Disney has lots of gender neutral stuff...maybe you could buy 1 boy ear/1 girl ear and when you do find out make your announcement? :)

I also am one that gets nervous with the new studies of too many u/s...so take what I say with a grain of salt.

  • I am trying to wait as well but it is hard...especially with a lot of us knowing already.
  • Get unisex items
  • The FDA warns against elective ultrasounds so if it were me, I'd just wait it out a bit longer.
  • I'm doing it, I'm impatient and 20weeks seems too far away for me.

  • I'd wait, but i understand the desire to know sooner and wouldn't judge anyone for that decision.

  • I found out, with our last one, at 15 weeks at an elective scan place. It was very obvious our baby was a girl. I don't think the three line sign lies. My scan cost $50 and it was worth it to me just to see our baby.

  • Do educated research on the facility and their credentials. I went and had a great experience. I also found an award winning place that uses thee same frequencies your doctor would and also won't go for extensive periods of time. Which is where issues may arise. Do what you are comfortable with after you do your checks.
  • I'm actually getting a sex scan on Friday because I'm impatient. I'll be 16 weeks which means it will be a pretty accurate scan and it's affordable. It's really up to you, just research the place your going and make sure you aren't getting ripped off.(If you aren't going to the dr)
  • Thank you for your input ladies. It looks like I will be waiting. After talking to my MIL and my mother, they both acted as if I was going to harm my unborn child if I added another scan to the already planned ones through my doctor. :-O

  • Just a thought is that lots of women have multiple ultrasounds for a variety of reasons. I am having twins and at 15 weeks have already had 6 ultrasounds through my doctor who said it was not a concern. Just sharing my experience/opinion that if the place is reputable it's likely fine!
