24 Hours of Not Pooping

I am having a rough time. I thought it would get better, but it's only gotten worse. Admittedly, I have not tried much yet. I have taken a little dose of miralax here and there and tried to increase my water intake. I will have to work harder. Anyone have any great fixes? If not, the least I ask for is that everyone post an empty post containing "24 Hours of Silence" in solidarity with my fight to poop. Thanks ahead of time.

Re: 24 Hours of Not Pooping

  • I would like to thank everyone for the support. I hope it works!!
  • I am not sure of this is supposed to be a funny joke to the 24 hours posts that I don't understand at all or serious but either way I got a laugh. If you are serious, I find walking around makes my bowels move! Silence, however, is not helpful. Good luck and thanks for the laugh.

  • I feel overwhelmed with love right now. I think the excitement and adrenaline produced by this outpouring might just be enough to get things back on track.
I think a lot of it has to do with lack of caffeine more than anything. Caffeine usually gets me going.
  • Honestly, I do occasionally give in to a small can of sodapop (I don't want to get in trouble if I call it just "soda" or just "pop", so I will call it both). Usually within 20 minutes of even that small dose of caffeine, I get results. I just don't have any right now to try. Frustrating.
  • Be careful! Someone might tell you their vulgar opinion about caffeine! Coffee always helps me go to the bathroom too. But be sure to be quiet as a mouse. :)

@HolKat That does not help my pooping.... Thanks for trying though? I could use some more helpful adv
  • The caffeine thing is funny. I feel like a bad pregnant woman and sometimes even disguise my drink in a styrofoam cup. Not that anyone cares and not that it is bad to do, but I still think it is frowned upon by a lot of people. I feel like I'm doing something illegal.
  • I have never tried any stool softeners but for miralax before. Maybe it's time. I have found that in addition to caffeine, holding gentle perineal pressure can help in the final release. Just getting to that point is difficult though.

  • More fruit and lots of water! Even a little coffee usually helps me along. Sometimes even a break for a day or two from prenatals can help get things moving again. I know they're known to cause some bowel "silence" ;)
  • Everything is against good bowels (hormones, cravings for only carbs, too little caffeine, prenatals). It is s surprise anyone poops when pregnant. I do need more fruit, for sure. It's hard when only potatoes even kind of sound good.
  • smooth move tea.
  • Never heard of such tea. I'm not a big fan of the taste of most teas (diluted herb taste is not my fave), but I'll have to look into it.
  • Why are you talking to yourself?

I didn't realize I was. I'm sorry. Could you help my bowels in some way? At least join in on the 24 hours of silence for my poop? It's really helping, I think. Thank you so much!

  • Oops. I guess with everything blowing up (not out yet unfortunately) with silence, the posting was a little slow. I didn't mean to triple post! So sorry!
  • Maybe a nap will help. I can't go find tea or fruit right now. Hopefully when I wake I will find lots of helpful suggestions!
  • I'm sorry to hear about your lack of recent bowl movements. I, on the other hand, am taking a Bump Dump as I type.

    :)

  • Great news! I was resting in bed when the urge hit! I was unfortunately on the phone with a friend with whom I hadn't spoken in several months, so it was poor timing, but welcomed nonetheless. I had to stealthily do my deed while not giving any hints as to what was going on (he is not the type to enjoy poop talk). When I was done, I of course couldn't flush without it being a dead giveaway, so I went back to my bed where my 3 yo daughter was playing and asked her to flush while I stood outside. It was a great moment in recent history. I thank all the support I have received in this matter. It truly made a difference! Til next time.

  • Since that poop (my daughters comment by the way (maybe tmi) was "Oh mama! That's a big poop!") I have felt clear and calm. Maybe everyone could use a good poop these days.

    Oh, neat!
  • I was told by my doctor if I hadn't gone in 48 hours to take colace, drink lots of water and avoid caffeine. However I am the same way as all of you are with caffeine so I drank caffeine anyway. It took 12 hours but it defiantly worked and wasn't painful.

  • Are you getting enough water? I was having issues but realized I was not drinking enough water. I think you should get around 80oz. a day which for me is really hard to do

Thanks! Next time I'm stopped up again (probably 3 days from now) I'm going to have to try colace. I recommend it frequently but haven't taken it myself (but for in the hospital after having my last baby, but it was more preventative than for treatment, so I didn't really see its effects).
  • Are we still talking about your poop?
  • I think it's the most interesting thing happening right now...and it's been flushed down the toilet.
  • It was a "buttload" of poop, so it is something to be praised and celebrated (by me at least)...
  • Omg I had no idea Zofran was such a constipator. None of my pts have ever complained about it. After miralax, colace and alot of straining I had finally had one after I think 7 days. It was horrid! My poor butt was bleeding. But the past 2 weeks I've been on a different nausea med and been eating better. Poop has been normal finally. Relief! I definitely sympathize with your behind.

I know. I wish it weren't so, but we all know it is. You with me? (Jk, obviously you are with me or you wouldn't have contributed with your support):
