Tuesday Chat!

Good morning! It's colddddd today. DH is taking our car to work today so I have to take the train and i'm being a baby about it. I used to do this every day!

Did you guys hear about the Dolphins player who fell off a boat and swam like 8 miles to shore? If it's true, that guy chose the best possible team name.

Re: Tuesday Chat!

  • Anyone watch the state championship last night?! Go Bucks!
  • Loading the player...
  • DH and baby are sick. Both are needy. How many days until I'm sick, two, one?
  • Just on a whim last night I dyed my hair brown. Omg I feel like my life got 1000x easier. I'm so tired of doing my own highlights all the damn time! I am finally FREE

I spend sooo much time/money on my hair, it's insane. Good job!

I stopped dying/highlighting my hair 3 years ago. My hair is finally all my natural color, which is awesome and I have no idea why I was changing it! I've gotten so relaxed about getting my hair done, probably getting a cut only three times a year. Saving money and it still looks good (when I decide to style it). Low maintenance is wonderful
I've thought about stopping the highlighting but I'm a chicken!

  • I'm pretty upset right now and don't know if I'm just being overly emotional. So G's birthday is March 28th, which is a Saturday. I was planning on having his party on his actual birthday. I was talking to my mom about that today and she was like hmm need to ask your sister, but I think that's when she planned the walk. My sister is the director of a non profit and the walk is their biggest fundraiser. My family is very involved in this non profit, even before she got the job. My dad and uncle are actually on the board, so it's not something they can just skip. I called and sure enough that's when it is and she was clueless that it was G's birthday. I live 4 hours away, so it's not like I can just do the party after the walk. So I either have to make my family choose between her event and G's birthday, which I know I would lose, or change his party.
I'm mainly frustrated because everyone seems clueless on his birthday. DH mom was talking about flying down to see the boys and flying in on the 28th and DH was like umm that's his birthday and she was clueless, so then she said she'd try to come a day earlier instead. Now my family is clueless. It was less than a year ago, why does no one remember?
  • I didn't watch the game @ashcole28‌ because we don't have cable but way to go, Buckeyes!!!

I would be upset @Tferr02‌ if my siblings/spouses planned an event on my child's bday, but it sounds like this is a HUGE event and the date may have been set for awhile (maybe even before your LO was born). I'd be glad to find out now before you get too far in planning the party so you can now adjust your plans/expectations. I hope you're able to find a solution that makes you happy!

I've NEVER died my hair and I'm fortunate to have really nice, natural highlights. My hairdresser just commented at my last cut that when I'm older and it starts to grey it'll be really nice. I sure hope she's right!

And on a completely unrelated note, with all the snow days, my morning routine has been thrown off and this morning I forgot to grab my pumping flanges! Thankfully I've been keeping a spare set (that's smaller, but will work) in my bag. But I seriously had a freak out moment when I got to school!

  • Thanks guys, I know I was being overly emotional. I think I would have reacted totally different if she had called me and been like I'm so sorry, I had to plan the walk on George's birthday because it was the only day available.

The walk always happens in a 2 month period, 2 years ago it was the first weekend in May (I know this because I was at it and had to be rushed to the hospital to get my appendix out). Last year it was the day after George was born, which is why my parents couldn't fly to NC for my scheduled c section and my friend flew in from El Paso instead to watch Micah. So I know I shouldn't be shocked that it ended up this weekend again. And reading that, I'm all of a sudden very nervous for that weekend, there seems to be a theme of surgeries for me.

I know I suffer from forgotten third child syndrome and I'm sure that's why it bothered me. My family can't even remember my birthday, why would they remember my son's birthday?..yup if you ask my mom what my birthday is she just knows it's the end of April. How do you not remember the date you pushed a kid out?!
  • @Tferr02‌ that sucks about the timing of the event. I would move the date of the party and do something special with your little one on his birthday, like go to the zoo or the pool.

My LO's first birthday I'll be at work.
  • @Treff02 - that does really suck that your sister's race is the same day as your little boy's birthday. I do have to be honest, though, I'm not 100% certain of my nieces and nephews birthdays - I know within a couple days but always have trouble remembering exactly :(. I'm really bad with dates, though trying to be better! It's also one of those awkward things the first year because if you forgot the date, you don't really feel great about asking someone, since you really should remember those things...

I hope you guys can find a solution that works for all of you! And, maybe you could preemptively talk to your sister about not scheduling it on his birthday for next year?

And, if it makes you feel any better, both my sisters forgot my birthday this year. One was sure it was two days later than it was, and called me that day, and the other one didn't call at all. So, it does happen to the best of us!

  • I guess my UO is that I don't give a crap about birthdays. I don't remember other people's birthdays and I don't expect other people to remember mine. Except for my parents and DH. And my kids, of course.

  • I'm irrationally sad the RTT is on the second page now... the end of an era...

@Tferr02 That stinks about the event timing, but at least you know they shouldn't have anything else planned for that weekend, so the day after should be totally free!

@Talltrees82 I'd be at work for LO's first birthday too except I've already got it penciled in as a vacation day.

  • @eireyes‌ I'd love to take the day off, but it's my first day back. Probably not the best way to get back into the swing of things! Ha ha

And the cold water pipe in my laundry room is frozen... Put in a load of laundry and didn't notice until half an hour later. Dammit.

@Dixon813‌ I'm also terrified of accidentally leaving my pumping parts at home. I double and triple check that I have my pump and flanges before going to work because I'm so paranoid. They are definitely more important than remembering my stethoscope, etc (I can always borrow and sanitize). It's probably a little excessive TBH.

A few months ago I forgot extra bottles (only had the 2 attached to the pump parts) so I cleaned out my Klean kanteen and used that to store milk. Then that night I put milk bags and and extra set of parts in my bag.

Now, tonight I need to remember to put an extra set in as this set is cleaning/drying!

Can I say I'm ready to be done pumping?!?!?!

  • Ohmygosh! That is simply amazing. Stories like this make me cry. I cannot imagine what went through his mind for all those hours. Guardian angels were there for sure. Just wow.

And don't go boat fishing alone and wear your life preserver if you do.

  • I urge everyone to stay as close to their natural color, even if it's grey. Especially if it's grey, I think grey hair (in a not old lady haircut anyway) is gorgeous. I'm not supposed to tell my clients these things though, they give me money so they can do whatever they want...
I hate my natural color.  It is blonde. I dye my own hair though. It was black and then red and now purple :)
  • Ugh DD has RSV and diaper rash.
First cold and first diaper rash at the same time. She is absolutleu miserable and not much I can do for her except baby cuddles.
  • wow....these toddler stories make me nervous about the future!

I virtuously decided that I'd take LO for a run after he woke up from his nap. I got all dressed and ready. As soon as I start feeding him once he awoke, I heard an odd sound outside.

Yep, it's raining. Come on, Arizona! What is with you raining just when I want to be active with Evan?

Granted, it should stop soon, but it certainly doesn't look appealing outside, and Evan doesn't tolerate the stroller well on a good day. And, DH isn't home until 8pm, so if the run doesn't happen during the day, it's not happening at all. Should have run this morning when I had the chance....

  • One of my grumpy preschoolers got mad at me this morning because I said, good morning X. Don't call me that!! My name sweet baby tiger! I just left it at good morning.

    =)) that is awesome!!!!
  • @Twirple @celticlullaby I have a cranky toddler here too. One of her favorite things lately is to yell stop talking at me. Its charming. Don't like it and don't want it are big here too.

It makes me incredibly sad when people put so much stock into the sex of their baby.

My sister said she will be mad if her third child is not a boy. Is that what you mean?

  • Afew months ago my toddler took a spoon to my boobs in Ikea and said yum ice cream!...and kept doing it

Today I laid down a happy but tired toddler down for nap and a cranky toddler that insists I stand on my feet and pick him up woke up instead. Instead of holding him the rest of the day, because G wasn't a fan of that plan, I turned on Monsters Inc. I'm calling it prep for our Disney trip, he needs to know who these characters are right?
  • Willa is a tiny garbage disposal today! She's getting over a little cold and has had no appetite. She just ate a whole waffle, like 2 oz. of cheddar cheese, a huge handful of grapes and would probably eat more. For a snack!

I feel like I should record the ruckus that she makes when trying to suck on her binky plus breathe out of her stuffy nose. It's so gross. Cute, but gross.

  • The activity mat took on a new life when DH put a blanket over the top and turned it into a cave. One of my girls also loves crawling under the jumper, table, piano bench, etc...

  • So happy that Evan went down for a nap after spending about 20 minutes standing on the different sides of his crib, crawling around, otherwise acting like he was never going to go to sleep.

I've never been more happy to lay on the couch and watch tv. I think I'm feeling sort of lonely with DH working till late the past few days and no real social things going on. Is it bad that just having the TV on makes me feel less alone? I haven't left the house today - need to figure out someplace to go that doesn't cost much money...

  • Target is my go to thing when I need to be out, I only check out tge clearance areas and it must be more than 50% off. Goodwill is another good spot to go to
  • We plan to take the bus downtown this weekend so the Toddler can ride the bus for the first time.  We'll probably go to the museum where we have a membership, and possibly get ice cream.  He should have a great time, and we won't spend much money.
