1 hour glucose / flu shot

this is my first pregnancy, I'm 27 weeks, 1 day. Killing time for my 1 hour waiting time and I must say, the drink so many people made such a fuss about was not nearly as bad as it sounded!! I didn't mind it one bit. It was lemon-lime. Almost tasted like Sierra mist without carbonation! as soon as I'm done here, I'm headed for an ultrasound and flu shot however, I'm not 100% sure that my decision to get the flu shot was the right choice. I've never had one however, my doctor highly recommends it. Suggestions? Anyone who has gotten the flu shot during pregnancy, have you gotten very sick after?

  • My apologies, I must've downloaded the wrong application. I thought this was to connect with other individuals, also whom are pregnant, to seek advice and opinions. I've commented on several threads when able. Although I don't have much time to spend on the application (that I barely know how to use) I wasn't aware of how rude some people were. I'm sorry you misinterpreted this as "passing time". It was actually the only free time that I've had in the last three months :) to "pass time" I've been searching for nursery ideas. Trying to involve myself but clearly I should not have done so! And it wasn't my doctor, it was another doctor in the practice, my doctor has been very sick! Also thought that I'd let other moms know that the drink that many people made sound horrible - wasn't! It's responses like yours that make me not want to bother.
  • Lol and did you expect that id return only to read more replies as such? As far as I'm concerned, everyone has to start somewhere.

    You're welcome  :D

    { TL\DR Warning because I'm sassy and can't be tamed }

You clearly stated in your first post that you were "passing the time" during your glucose test, so yes, you did in fact use us/this board to pass the time. I didn't make that up. And you must be mistaken, because this board IS for individuals who are pregnant.. but it's not just that, it's a community that has spent alot of time together.. contributing, supporting each other, helping each other. It's NOT, however, a drive-by place for randoms to comment once in hopes of getting some kind of "google-esque" answer from us and then move on never to be heard from again. So as far as that goes, yes, you were in fact misinformed. And if you want information/opinions/support.. take a second to give some as well. Had you been a regular contributor, I guarantee you would've gotten numerous responses that were very helpful, still some snark, as none of us are doctors so "if you're doctors tells you something, listen" responses would've followed.. but you would've gotten some genuine responses. But, like I said before, had you spent any time here beforehand, you would know that.

And the reasoning of "just warning those who haven't done it that the drink isn't that bad".. is just dumb, to put it bluntly. Because there's a million different flavors of that drink all over the country that people have to drink. And just because you think it's "not so bad" does not mean that the next pregnant girl to come along will agree. So you weren't doing us a great service by throwing that in, nor using that as justification for your drive-by post.

And for the record, you've had 6 replies to posts since joining.. 2 of which were on this post. So no, you haven't contributed in any way.. try again.

Enjoy your glucose test, I do hope you get good results, as well as a healthy pregnancy. But clearly, as your pointless post proves.. maybe this isn't the place for you. Or maybe it could've been, had you started contributing with the rest of us and actually gotten to known us (or just me, as clearly I've hurt your fly-by feelings) from the beginning.

  • FYI also had my flu shot, it made me less sick than in other years.

Meanwhile, sorry we don't "pass the time" as you seem to expect. These ladies are a hell of a community. I'm sorry you're missing out.

  • Meh! The post was a bit dear diary but not wholly deserving of the replies. Let's be honest, we all use the site to pass time every now and then!
Yes, it's a community and some have more time to post than others and are more in tune with the regs, but that doesn't mean that those that don't have tons of time to post and connect online can't share their experiences or offer their opinion on the glucose drink.
I didn't mind my orange glucose drink too much either. I actually looked forward to it because I was starving.

The part about the flu shot is a no brainer in my mind. Maybe should have gone on the stupid questions post? Get it.

  • We had the flu shot administered at work as part of our health initiative. My doctor highly recommended I get one. When I got it I wasn't really showing and the pharmacist overheard me talking about how I was pregnant. He told the lady administering the shot to wait one second. Opened the fridge with a new box of flu vaccinations and said, "here, give her this". I was concerned and asked why was that different and why I was getting that instead. He replied it's thimerosal/preservative free and, "it's what I'd give my wife if she was pregnant." Anyway, I haven't been sick once this year and I usually get sick at least once ever year. I haven't even had the cold.
  • I had the lemon lime one too and yes it isn't that bad. The flu shot won't make you sick and I got it last pregnancy and everything was fine :) At my glucose testing apt I got my TDAP shot, that one just hurts your arm for a while.
Good thing is after this apt shouldn't be anymore blood work for the rest of the pregnancy as long as everything is going well!
  • Quietly tiptoeing away,
Just can't stand another sensitive Susie, or flu shot (or pretty much any vaccine) debate. At this point, I realized this topic is like religion or politics.

Ps. Unless medically contraindicated, say yes to vaccines
