All three of mine will have been delivered in different places, and I've had different experiences for all 3 so far. My 1st was a civilian dr and they did 3, one for dating, the anatomy scan and one to measure size at 36 weeks. My second the first half was a civilian dr the second half was military, I had at least 4-5 the first half and 2 more the second half (they couldn't get a good shot of her heart). Assuming all goes normally this time, Ive had 1 and will have 1 more which is the anatomy scan.
I feel so spoiled. I had one at er for bleeding, three at old OB one for first appt, one for dating where they didn't see heartbeat so I had one more to confirm...switched OBs had two with him so far and one long one with the perinatologist for the ultrascreen. I'm 14 weeks. My OB has his own practice and he does a quick U/s at every visit. He also as a courtesy to his patients will allow you to come in for an U/s if you're worried or something doesn't feel right, he doesn't even bill your insurance for that, it's just for peace of mind (usually that will be with his sister who is a physician's assistant).
I've had two actual ultrasounds so far, but I also have a history of early pregnancy loss.
My OB office uses awesome mini ultrasound machines in place of a doppler at every visit though, so I get lots of peeks at baby during routine appts.
That's wonderful that you get to see your baby often - I can see that being comforting with a history of loss. I'm trying to pretend like I'm calm waiting from our last ultrasound at 9 weeks to our next ultrasound at 20 weeks. The doppler helps, though.
I've had 1 at 6, 8, 10, 12 ... And I have my next In 3 weeks at 16 weeks . It really varies on your pregnancy, if there's a higher risks or complications and in my opinion on how great your instance is . I have a great insurance plan and I think the more coverage the more visits and scans. I think for the usual insurance is something like 2 scans .
Thank you for all of the responses ladies! I've never had a doppler, nor have I yet to hear the babies heartbeat I have a "follow-up" appointment on the 20th, so hopefully my obgyn will give me more insight to my next u/s then. That will be my second visit with her, at my first she didn't even touch me, she just asked me loads of questions, and gave me a paper for testing I needed done at a hospital/dr's office. After that she scheduled an appointment for almost 5 weeks later.
With this being my first pregnancy, I suppose I am just worried that something is wrong with the baby. I'm not showing yet, and most symptoms on most days are gone. Is there any way to make the worry go away until my next u/s?
This is my second pregnancy, and I know that even when things are going well it's almost impossible not to worry. When I was pregnant with my son I was in my early 20s, definitely surprised, and did not know what to expect at all. My uterus is tilted back (had no clue), so the Doppler picked up nothing and the mw just told me we would try at future appointments. They did eventually do a vaginal ultrasound to make sure baby was fine. My next ultrasound after that was the anatomy scan (though they couldn't tell the sex until the 36 week ultrasound). I also did not show until probably 5 months along. I didn't experience morning sickness, cravings, or the other common symptoms. Everything was fine . It's so hard not to worry, but know that the vast majority of pregnancies go just as they should, and the babies are healthy and protected in there.
It all depends on what your doctor wants. I had one done when I went for my first appointment to confirm how far along I was and I will have another around 18 weeks. I am 14 weeks 3 days now so I am due around July 9th.
