Baby Names

Variations of Lynn

There are two family members that DH and I would like to honor with DD's name. This is most likely going to be our last child, so there's no holding off until next baby. The first person's MN was Lynn, the second's MN was Elizabeth. DH and I really like the name Lorelei for a first name, and I don't mind Elizabeth as a MN with Lorelei. But I really don't like Lynn, and she only has one MN. Can anyone think of a way to work both in? The alternative is using Evelynn as a MN. I like that too. But I would feel bad not using Elizabeth. Ach! Help!

Re: Variations of Lynn

  • What about Ellen? It has the beginning sound of Elizabeth and the end sounds like Lynn. I don't love it with Lorelei, but I think it's a great way to "blend" the 2 names together.

I would just go with Lorelei Elizabeth.  I think it's lovely.  I personally do not feel like Evelynn honors anyone.  It's just Evelyn spelled incorrectly.  I think if you want to honor both than go with the name Elizabeth Lynn.  Otherwise, pick one and that's it.  Honoring someone with your child's name is just that- an honor.  No obligation to fit as many people's names or name sounds in there as possible.
    This.

Also, I've only seen honor names given one at a time (meaning, one per child). Unless two family members or friends you wish to honor happen to share the same name. Not saying this is a rule, just what I'm familiar with. Seems trying to squish multiple honor names together for the sake of including more people isn't necessary. Why struggle with alternatives? You'll just end up with a name you sort of like for the sake of honoring more than on person.
