Help! Shower advice needed

I'm 11w this Wednesday. We have to drive (1100 miles) back to New York for a shower, but I also have a conference in mid-May. May is completely out. My mom said I should have it in April even though that's kind of early, DH was thinking June 6ish (or whatever that weekend is) but I'll be really pregnant. Looking for what's least likely to make me miserable. Moms who have been through this before please help!!!

Re: Help! Shower advice needed

  • Personally, I'd do it in April. I wouldn't want to be that far away from my doctor and my hospital that close to my due date, just in case. Besides that, I'm betting that ride would suck worse in June. That just me.
  • With my first, my shower was in March and the baby was due in the middle of June. So I think having it in April is fine if that works best for you and the person hosting it.

  • I would have it in April.  I personally would not want to make that long trip in June.  I had my shower with my son at 7 months which I think is a good time frame.  Still leaves you time to get the things you still need with some time to just relax towards the end as well.

  • I would have it in April, towards the end of the month.. With my first I was due end of November and we had the shower in sept.. It was nice to get everything organized and know what we still needed to buy ourselves
  • I personally don't think thats to early. A friend had hers at 28 weeks and ended having to deliver at 35 weeks because of preeclampsia.
  • April is fine. I was due in January with DD and had my shower in November because of the holidays.

I would not want to drive 1,100 miles that far into my pregnancy. Your doctor will probably agree.
  • I am in a similar situation as I have a tone of things happening in May and all of the family abroad. June seems too pregnant for me, so I a, doing mine the first weekend of May, or towards the end of April. I don't see why it would be a bad thing to do.

  • I vote April!
  • I would do it in April, you want to be comfortable and enjoy yourself. Traveling is also safer earlier on. I had my baby shower earlier with my first and it was a great decision. I felt comfortable, don't hate the photos and still celebrated the pregnancy.

  • April is fine, but I'll be the odd man out and say the first weekend in June also wouldn't be awful. It really depends on how you feel though. How many weeks would you be? I had my shower at 32 weeks in NY, which was a 12 hour drive each way. It really wasn't bad at all for the drive and I was still comfortable at my shower.

I agree with the April shower date.

But, I'm probably not the best to give advice since I thought this was about showering (bathing) when I clicked. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
  • Thanks ladies! I think I'm going to go with April. DH complains about me on road trips PRE pregnancy because I have to stop to pee so much. @Beachy730 (yeah I'm sure that didn't work....why does desktop have to be so different from mobile? and why am I so technologically retarded?!) I'd be about 35 weeks pregnant if we went in June. 36+ by the time we travel back to Alabama.
  • I would say April, that is a long trip. When I went to Dallas from Georgia close to the South Carolina side it was a 15 hour drive. The doctor didn't like the idea of it and instructed me to stop every couple hours to get out and stretch. I was about 7 and half months pregnant. But I would say you would be more comfortable in April.

Yeah then definitely do it in April. I was thinking you would only be about 32 weeks early June if you're 11 now. Your OB would likely tell you not to travel that far that late.

  • April! I had to do a 6 hour drive for mine at 34 weeks and it was not fun going home. :( We had a tight schedule and left the day after and I was exhausted and uncomfortable. I had wanted it earlier but my friend who organized it wasn't able to.

  • I would do it in April because of the travel. I had my shower when I was 34 weeks but didn't have to travel. But my doc doesn't like me to be more than an hour away the last month or so.

  • I think either would be fine.

  • We are doing April, as well. My grandmother lives with my parents during the winter, and usually goes back to NY in March. However, she will stay through April to be able to attend. My cousin, whom I am very close with, lives near San Fran (We're in Arizona,) and she will be in town in April as well, so she and my mom are throwing my shower in April.

I figure I'll be big enough to look pregnant in pictures, but not too miserable where I can't enjoy it, especially because a May/June shower in Arizona would be MISERABLE for me in 110 degrees.

The best part is my mom is going old school, so though I am aware I'm getting a shower, when and where will be a complete surprise to me!
