Still no lovey?

Dd just turned 8 months last week and she still shows no preferene towards a lovey/security object. I have tried to encourage it, but she has zero interest in the lovey and no attachment to the small A+A blanket I've been letting her sleep with. She doesn't even snuggle it. I've been watching for signs of preference towards any other objects, but nothing. Ds was super attached to his lovey by 6-7 months and it was great help with independent sleep for him. Dd uses a pacifier for now, but since I'll be taking that away in the next 3-4 months I would like dd to have a lovey of some sort as well, but don't know if I'm going about it wrong.

Anyone else have a LO who doesn't show an attachment to an item yet? Or when did your LO start liking their lovey? How did you encourage it?

  • She sleeps with an A&A blanket, but she isn't into it like my other two were. She sucks her left middle fingers for comfort. I think she may just need more time with it.

  • No preference either. We EBF and I've been told EBF kids tend to not have loveys. DD1 never had a lovey either, and I'm thankful.
  • No lovey here.... I've tried giving her one and she just tosses it aside
  • I was reading something about loveys yesterday and it said getting an attachment to an object usually happens between 9 and 12 months, so if that source is correct your DD is still on the early end.

This same source also said a paci counts as a lovey for some.

  • No preference for any lovey here either.  He does use a pacifier now for naps and overnight sleep, but had no interest in one until we stopped nursing about 2 months ago.

Ditto this. Of course, it means essentially my boobs are his lovey.

  • No lovey, no paci here
  • No preference here either. He has toys that he enjoys more than others, but he's shown no real attachment to anything.
  • No lovey here (9m EBF). I think he would consider my boobs as his lovey though

My left boob is dd lovey...
  • Dd likes yellow. And her favorite bath toy is her duck. But I haven't really offered a lovey. She doesn't use pacifiers either. Sometimes she'll suck her fingers. She's 8 months old.
  • No lovey here, but lately when he's nursing he likes to hold onto my hand and fall asleep that way, so I'm wondering if one of his little animal blankies might be a good substitution and become a lovey.

None of my kids have done the lovey thing. My older 2 took pacis but I didn't have problems getting rid of them. I tried to push it on my first and put the same 2 items in her crib all the time but neither stuck. In retrospect, I see the frantic parents on the FB garage sale sights trying to track down a replica lovey that has inevitably stopped being manufactured and just think "glad that's not me!"

  • DD loves to grab a piece of fabric in her left hand then suck her left thumb.  She doesn't have a preference for what the fabric is and willful up her dress, or a blanket.  We give her a little blanket within stuffed animal head because it is small and less likely to cover her face.

  • We EBF and LO sleeps with a small a+a blanket. We had like 8 of the light swaddling blankets so my mom cut one into quarters and hemmed the edges. Now LO has one at daycare, one at grandma and grandpa's, and two for home!

  • Neither of my kids have ever really had an attachment to material things. DS does suck his fingers though.
