Multiple ear infections already-help!

My LO is 4 months tomorrow and on her 2nd ear infection. It cleared in between as we had it checked. She does not go to daycare, but her brother does. This seems highly unusual to me, what should we do? Should we go to ENT already? Haven't even been able to see our regular doctor as she is out on leave, but I am just really nervous about giving her another 10 days of antibiotics, it REALLY messed with her gut last time. HELP!

  • I think it is a little early to see an ENT. You may end up with putting tubes in eventually, but I think it is too early to really consider it. My son had probably 5 ear infections his first year, some requiring multiple rounds of antibiotics. We did get tubes put in when was 13 months and that solved the problem.

  • My DS was also on his second ear infection around 5 months. We did not do daycare either. We were already seeing an ENT because DS had laryngomalacia and reflux. She didn't order tubes until 9 mos or so when they weren't clearing up. So I'm not sure you need to see an ENT at this point because they won't do anything differently than a pedi.

If you are given another antibiotic make sure you give her a probiotic as well. We used culturelle with DS. He is 2 now and still needs a probiotic with an antibiotic.
