Light duty ideas?

Hey guys. So I apologize in advance if I'm missing a previous board on here or something, but I'm hoping some of y'all are more creative than I am. I'm a ftm and have a pretty physical job as a paramedic so definitely don't want to stay on the ambulance throughout my pregnancy, I just feel like it's too dangerous and my doctor agrees. The problem is, light duty at work may not be an option available to me. My husband works in the same field so neither of us is really raking in the money, so just taking leave with no income for months isn't really an option. I do have short term disability set aside but that will only last for 3 months, dr wants me off at 20 weeks. Any ideas for extra income while preggers? I thought about retail but I don't know how that would go over in the hiring process being that it will only be temporary. Any ideas?

    Everyone Welcome

  • Do you have other risk factors? In my area lots of EMTs get jobs as ER techs

  • The problem is that I work for a large private company, so if I'm allowed to dispatch, the center is 3 hours away. No other risk factors, er tech may be an option.
  • That really stinks. Maybe try ER tech or try teaching at a local community college. I know lots of paramedics who get extra cash by helping out as adjunct instructors.

  • They can't place you in an Admin enviornment during your pregnancy? I would talk to your employer about your options first, and then if it doesn't work out try to find something else in the meantime. I don't know that they can place you off work if they can't find you a light duty assignment. That doesn't sound right? Worse case is if they do you should be able to collect unemployment?
