Postpartum Periods

Im sure there's another PPP thread out there somewhere but I'm not sure if it's covering what I'm about to ask. Basically, I got my first PPP at a little over 6 months (10/27/14) to be exact. I've had irregular periods before getting pregnant but never THIS irregular. I haven't had another period yet. I guess I just wanna know if this comes with the territory.

I had super irregular periods my entire life before pregnancy and then had four really regular ones post partum. I know pregnancy can reset your body and cause some weird things to happen. Are you on any type of BC that could be causing it?

No. That's kinda making me nervous

  • Have you tested? I've heard of ladies being super irregular for at least a year or until after you've weaned.

  • I think they can still be wonky for awhile. I wasn't the fortunate ones and mine came back right away and has been regular, my midwife said I couldn't trust my cycle yet and to still use forms of BC.

Could be because I'm still breast feeding. I should test. And look into an iud
  • I mean I would assume since you've been irregular before and are still BFing that your fine and it'll regulate in time, but I would test just to know.

  • I had no periods until I went on birth control at 2 months pp. I had two moths of regular periods after that and since then nothing. It worries me every month, but so far every test has been negative so I guess my cycle is just messed up.

With ds it took me 8 months till I had normal periods and I wasn't even breast feeding.

  • I've had 2 so far, and I went back to the exact same cycle as before.

This is totally normal. I had very regular cycles prior to A and since I got my first PP (almost the exact same time you did), I had a 7 week cycle where I had signs of ovulation, but didn't actually ovulate. I looked into it and it's completely normal while breastfeeding and will regulate over the next few months. Also, go pee on something.

Would it be completely inappropriate to tag you in all my medical questions from now on lol. I'm literally at ease now that you've hopped on this thread
  • I got my first post partum period in August and then didn't get another until November. I peed on a few sticks in between! I'm on BC now and my periods are still wonky, showing up at random times.
  • Mine first one just lasted 20 days. It SUCKED!!!
  • I've had three very regular periods and now I'm 8 days late but neg pregnancy test. I'm glad to hear from @eme520‌ this is normal. But I think I will be peeing on more things until it starts. Ha!! Even though its very clearly negative I won't relax until I know for sure.

  • I've had 4 PPP now and they've been surprisingly regular, I BF and supplement.
  • How can you know if it's irregular if you've only had one?  ;)

The length between my first and second PPP was much longer than usual.  I am assuming my cycles will shorten again eventually.  I've found it pretty straightforward to identify ovulation both times, so AF arrived right on time according to that.

  • Mine returned at 3mo PP and they went right back to the way there were prior to pregnancy.
