Healthy Living Check In - 12/15/14

Good Morning Ladies!  I hope you all had a good and healthy weekend.  :)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We are a group of women striving to live healthier lives, whether that means losing weight, gaining weight, sticking to a specific diet, counting calories, avoiding counting calories, starting to exercise, continuing to exercise or anything in between.
We check in on Mondays and follow up with an accountability on Fridays (our favorite post of the week, because we love encouraging each other and celebrating all our successes!).

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Many of us are using MyFitnessPal to keep track of our eating and our exercise. MFP is a great tool to keep yourself accountable, and because it is set up as a social network site, we can cheer you on there as well as here. If you are using MFP and have not found us yet, let us know so we can friend you!

Re: Healthy Living Check In - 12/15/14

  • Hey Menrandes, thanks for the check in! :)

    The Good:
Last week I got my 3 workouts in, even though I worked late one night so I give myself a pat on the back for that

    The Bad:
The weekend. Oh how I love you yet hate you, weekend. It was MH's birthday and I threw a party at out house. Lots of food and lots of drinking. And there was left over sweets that I couldn't keep my fat fingers off of yesterday.

    The Proud:
Ummm.....when I ate the cake yesterday I took 95% of the icing off before I shoved it in my mouth. That counts, right?

    Your Plan:
I am leaving to VA for 2 weeks on Friday. My plan is to try and not gain 20 pounds. :(

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal?
I love, love, love beef jerky so I will have to go with that. It's not really a meal but if I am on the go I make it one!

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • The Good: My husband is coming home tonight and I am finally feeling less sick!  Still under the weather, but more likely to eat healthy food.  Yay for healthy food again!

The Bad: Being sick all last week and over the weekend.  My diet consisted of mostly rice cakes and crackers.  I am anticipating a bought of carb flu this week once I cut that stuff out again.

The Proud:  Yeah, I got nothing for this category.

Your Plan: It's a new week.  I can eat food again.  And now that that is the case, I plan on eating as healthily as I can.  And getting right back on the horse so to speak with the exercise routine.  I've been feeling like a blob since I have been unable to do it.  I also want it to be a really healthy week leading into the holidays. I'd rather not already be bloated on Christmas.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? I like to grab smoked salmon and goat cheese with tomatoes for a grab and go meal.  Failing that, I'll usually just have hummus and and veggies and maybe a small handful of Beanitos (bean and rice chips).  It's enough to keep me going for quite a while!

@Nikolie93 Oh gosh...thanks for the laugh about the frosting.  Yep, totally counts.  Well, it counts if you like frosting anyway! Good job with the working out!

  • @menrandes, I LOVE frosting and this was cinnamon it was sooo good. So, I will be proud :D

I am glad YH is coming home and that you're almost 100% feeling better. Sucks to be sick but timing worked out well it seems!

Good luck with your plan, I have faith you can jump right back in and get on track :)

    Your Plan:
Once all my finals finish this week my ass is going straight to the gym

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal?

@Nikolie93  --- no icing totally counts. For me that's the best part so that was totally a bold move.

@Menrandes  --- feel better soon. Great attitude as well. It is a new week. :)

  • I'm going to jump in! I need to be more healthy and accountability always helps me :)

The Good: I went to ballet class on Tuesday night.  That counts as me being active right?!? The teacher also does pilates at the beginning of the class which kicks my butt sometimes especially if it is abdominal work.

The Bad: Drinking! We had 3 Christmas parties on saturday this past weekend.  I drank a bottle of wine and then some. Oops!

The Proud:  I joined this check-in! Hoping it helps to see my good/bad habits written out and know how to move forward and be more healthy.

Your Plan:  My main goal now is to cut out caffeine.  I drink way too much diet coke daily and I need to switch to drinking more water.  Also, being active more than once or twice a week would be a good start.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal?  My favorite grab and go meal - lean cuisines.  I don't know if it's neccessarily a favorite but that's what I end up doing when I'm in a hurry and/or don't feel like cooking.

    Welcome!
Oh yeah, ballet definitely counts!! That's a pretty intense workout!
And switching over to water instead of soda, even diet soda, is a great step!

  • @Nikole93 - I can't believe that you have the will power to avoid icing!!! Props to you for that :)

@kittymeowbark - Good luck on finals this week! Most every morning I have a fiber one bar.

@Menrades- Yay for your hubby coming home and starting to feel better! Sick weeks don't count

  • Welcome @catvaughn5002

It was hard to remove the icing :((
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Bumpin' at work so I've got to post and run. Will check in again later though.

The Good: I was in my 2WW so I drank significantly less during the week than previous months.

The Bad: NO workouts. Got some BFNs so I DRANK at a birthday party and holiday party this weekend. Tippy cup, kicked my ass. Then I eat like crap when hungover....

The Proud: I only had crap for lunch once last week despite not getting any grocery shopping done. I've become a huge plan of Amy's soups so that has been my go to for lunch- feels a lot healthier than chipotle.

Your Plan: I plan to get some meal planning & grocery shopping done. I also spent all weekend feeling extremely out of shape and gave myself a good talking to and will make it to the gym at least once this week. TONIGHT!

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? I don't really have one. I used to make refrigerator oatmeal a week out. That was really helpful for breakfasts.

Okay. Have a great day ladies!
     Me: 30, DH: 30. Dating since 2007- Married: 5/18/13.

    Formerly TashaCN and wonderigwhatmyfutureholds

    All AL welcome.
  • The Good: The gym routine throughout the week and meals have been going well.

The Bad: Usually I get some runs in over the weekend. I was too hungover both mornings and did not go at all this weekend. It is terrible.

The Proud: I tried sushi on Saturday. This can be a proud one...I am a picky eater. I stayed away fom the raw ones, but I had some veggie ones.

Your Plan: Go to classes at the gym three times this week. Friday is the last day of work for two weeks. I can run any morning for those two weeks and I plan on getting in as many as possible. New Years Day will probably not happen due to a likely hangover though.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? Does my morning smoothie count? I love it. I can see it not counting because I make it every morning. On the other hand, it should count because I can grab it, go, and eat it when I get to work.

Ingredients: ice, banana, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, almond milk, and Green Vibrance powder (so many probiotics and full day's veggie servings!).

  • Hi @Menrandes - thanks for the check in!

The Good: Nothing. Other than perhaps finding my motivation again?

The Bad: All of the foods and none of the exercising.

The Proud: Figuring things out and coming up with my plan.

The Plan: I'm back on MFP tracking my food (as of today!), and officially start Pump tonight! I'm so excited about that! It's been rough mentally/emotionally lately, and I finally realized that eating my feelings is not going to help my clothes fit better, nor will it bring our babies back. So, it's time to get my (big jiggly) butt back in gear and do right by my body.
@readinglove Finding your motivation again is great thing!  Tracking your food is a great start, and so is Pump!  It sounds like you have a good plan moving forward.  Realizing the connection between eating and feelings and how it doesn't change anything is something that is so hard for people.  I know it took me a long time to get to the point.  So great job on getting to that point!  You'll do great.

  • @flyoffeve I really, really need to start making myself a smoothie in the morning. I love them but I already get up at 5:30 and the thought of getting up earlier makes me cringe :(

As for the sushi, I used to be just like you and now I LOVE all kinds! It took me quite a while though.
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Seeing as that I am currently licking caramel off my fingers from a batch of caramel puff corn... I'd say things are not going great over here. I've kind of taken some of the pressure off until after the holidays. Hopefully then I'll be able to jump into this without feeling down on myself every time I make an eating choice that isn't healthy.

I find it less healthy to be down on myself all the time instead of just owning that I'm making bad choices and wait for a time when I'll be able to focus better.

Not very inspirational, but it works for me.

  • The Good: I did my DDP yoga 4 times last week and took an hour and a half walk in the woods with the dogs Saturday

The Bad:  I may have sampled the cookied I baked yesterday

The Proud: no emotional eating! WAHOO!

Your Plan:  well DH is on OT all week. Not sure how much exercise I'll get besides walking the dogs. I have to ice all my gingerbread and make peanut butter cookies tonight and tomorrow. I must resist the sampling...

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal. I dont really grab and go, I eat a lot of leftovers for lunch.
@Kellybenelly83 Hey, gotta sample cookies.  How else will you know they are good?
    ;)
but that's fantastic news on the emotional eating!  Keep it up, great job!!!!

@TowerClimbersWife The holidays are rough, I think it's a positive thing that you realize that "healthy living" just isn't going to happen right now during them.  I mean with all of the stress that comes with the holidays and all of the freaking food!!  Sheesh, it's amazing not everyone comes out of it weighing a lot more than they went into it!  If you know you are going to come back to this in the new year, then I say that's good.  You need to be able to focus on it and no beat yourself up about it when it doesn't go as planned.

Yeah. This school year I have been getting up at 5:15 instead of 5:30. It is so early! I used to take a banana, but the smoothie leaves me more full.

     My Chart

  • The Good: I am back on track after a week of eating for comfort.

The Bad: I hate way too many out of the norm foods last week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Proud: DW and I are very excited about our meals plans and getting out for evening runs together.

Your Plan: Get out for evening runs with DW every night this week, and continue strength training with an emphasis on body weight and core exercises.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? For something savory, I will grab a tub of argula, hummus, low sodium turkey or chicken slices from the deli, bell pepper and whole wheat tortillas to make wraps.  I keep this combo stocked at home and at work.  For something sweet, my go to is plan non-fat greek yogurt, a tbsp of crunchy biscoff and a diced apple (preferably honey crisp) all mixed together.

  • @flyoffeve, damn you get up around the same time I do so no sympathy from you I guess lol. I guess a few minutes early wouldn't hurt me! I usually get to work and toast some whole grain bread and add some peanut butter and half a banana on it. I am addicted to it.

@towerclimberswife I just had the same thought as you did about the holiday's. I had a little talk with myself and realized that I will not be working out while I am up in VA for 2 weeks and I refuse to beat myself up if I have some bad meals here and there. I think the stress makes me want to eat even more! Good luck to you!

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

@sdfonz619 Getting back on track is great!!  I think it is fantastic that your DW is working out with you.  It's so important to have that support system, and so much easier when your SO is right there with you!

  • The Good: I've been bringing my breakfast & lunch to work every day, and I went to the gym over the weekend.

The Bad: My RE brought up gastric sleeve surgery...again. I really want to avoid surgery if at all possible.

The Proud: I've done a really good job of sticking to my nutrition tracking and staying within my allotted calories/carbs/protein.

Your Plan: I'm going to try to get to the gym at least once more this week, and keep tracking my food. Also, I plan on eating nachos for dinner Wednesday. Hopefully I can plan well enough to still keep my carbs balanced and calories within limits.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? My favorite quick dinner is a pre-made Caesar salad mix. I usually grill a chicken breast, cut it up, and throw it on top.

@whitneyandconcep Good job on bringing your food to work.  I'm sure that helps with a lot of outside temptation!  FX that you'll be able to avoid surgery.
You just made me want nachos and Caesar salad simultaneously.

  • Hello lovely ladies! I hate that I have been such a bad bumpie. I feel swamped by work and life and it means that I have been neglecting you lovelies. :(
Since I am not personalizing now: Keep it up everyone! Your silent cheerleader is here rooting for each and every one of you!

    AFM:
The Good: No gain and still drinking lots of water. Oh and H made me gluten free pizza and admitted that it was good!

The Bad: H bought candy and while he has been the one eating most of it, I still end up having some and then I feel so guilty after. It's taking the enjoyment out of it, which might help me avoid it.

The Proud: I have managed to avoid the elevator, and try to always talk myself into the stairs.

Your Plan: Add back in my healthy morning smoothies, instead of grabbing toast or something else. Add that to the lots of water, and hopefully we will start seeing the scale move down.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? A banana. I really love bananas.

     My Chart

  • Hey ladies!  Sorry that I'm late and that I didn't get here Friday.  We have a big audit at work today so it's been all hands on deck getting ready.

The Good:  The scale says I'm down 5 lbs, but I spent all yesterday with a stomach bug so I'm pretty sure it will go back up in a couple days of eating again.

The Bad: I didn't exercise yesterday or today, but considering I'm not eating very much I'm not too concerned about it.

The Proud:  Continuing the T25Focus plan even on the mornings that I can hardly breath from my cold.

Your Plan: Get rid of this stomach bug today and get exercising tomorrow.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal?  I make a salad the night before to have for lunch every day.  I'm not sure that counts as a "grab and go" because I can't eat it in the car, but I do eat it at my desk.  It's so nice knowing that my nutritious lunch is sitting in the fridge the night before so I don't have to try to find time in the morning.

@PowerofBacon- Those burritos sound amazing! I have to force myself to not stop at Moes and Chiptole some days for lunch.

@EllieCat17 - I love bananas too! Congrats on drinking water and staying active :)

  • Awesome! I am on MFP- @NYJetsGRL

    So, tell me:

The Good: I am doing really well continuing my healthy eating and working out 6 days a week since have my dandc 3 weeks ago.

The Bad: Scale hasn't moved too much but I know it will once I am doing this for a couple of weeks.

The Proud: For the first time in my life I am eating well and working out in the month of december. That feels amazing!

Your Plan: Keep on track right up to xmas eve. I will treat myself for the day and a half but right back on track!

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? Quest Protein bar as a snack. As a meal, shakelogy shake! Chocolate is the best!
  • The Good: I'm enjoying the treadmill. The weather outside is frightful (super icy and dangerous to be walking in), so I've bee successful in logging some time on the treadmill.

The Bad: I'm in my candy phase. I go through one every few months, and it seems to be happening now.

The Proud: I've been choosing the treadmill over the couch almost every night this past week.

The Plan: To keep on keepin' on, and to add strength training back in next week.

QOTW: apple with pb, or string cheese.
  • @cutiesmommy420 Awesome on the workouts! I am super envious of that. Keep on moving on! :)

@northernkhaleesi I am glad you're enjoying your treadmill! I know what you mean by candy phase. I am in that phase right now but I haven't been working out so it's even worse! Hope you get over that phase soon :)

  • Sorry ladies, I was completely away from my computer yesterday...

@Elliecat17 Ooo, what kind of gluten free pizza did you get?  Good for you on taking the stairs more!!  I think adding in smoothies is a great plan.  They are so surprisingly filling aren't they?

@rmpar29 I'm sorry you've been so sick.  I hope you feel better today!!

@PowerOfBacon It's good that you check in here even when you haven't been "healthy."  I think it's easier to ignore that than admit, so I'd say that's a positive thing!!  And good job on the not killing.  That's positive too.
    ;)

@CutiesMommy420 December is such a hard time to continue to eat healthy and exercise.  Great job that you are keeping up with it!

@northernkhaleesi Good for you on choosing the treadmill!  That's fantastic!
And I love me some peanut butter with my apple, though lately I've been getting almond butter for that particular snack instead.

  • @elliecat17 my first few months gluten free I only made my own pizza. Now, if we do eat pizza, I usually either get California Pizza Kitchen or Domino's. I haven't had any gluten issues from domino's, but they do not use a separate cooking space, so beware that there could be cross contamination.

Bob's Red Mill all purpose gluten free is my favorite flour. I use it for all kinds of stuff - thickener, baking, etc.

  • Hi Ladies, I'd like to join you if you'll have me. I need some motivation and accountability!

The Good: I need to lose weight, and by doing that, I'll become more healthy!

The Bad: I don't like working out.

The Proud: I have a spinning bike that I've asked my DH to haul upstairs to our guest bedroom for me to use in the morning.

Your Plan: Wake up an hour earlier to get myself going and spin for 20 minutes every morning.

QOTW: What is your favorite grab and go meal? Hummus and cucumber!!
