So this is an odd question because I am talking about a book not a person. H and I have always wanted to use names from books we love as a FN for our child. We have chosen Oscar after the character Oskar in a book called Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. My favorite book is The Virgin Suicides and I would love to use a name from it but the only one I slightly like is Cecilia but it is to frilly sounding for me. We both however really like Celia.
Would it be weird to use Celia to honor my favorite book? We changed the spelling of Oskar so he doesn't think it is a stretch to shorten up a name for mine. Thoughts?

Re: Celia to honor Cecilia?
No one is going to say, "CELIA?! Did you mean Cecilia like that chick in The Virgin Suicides?"

I think it will be all fine
I'm going to throw a spanner in the works and say you have to use the exact name from the book if that's what you are trying to honour.
To give you an idea... I love Juliet for Romeo and Juliet which is tragic as well. We also have Hannah on our list for the book The Reader who was less than admirable. We like Simon from the Lord of the Flies and he gets murdered. If you have read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close you would probably find Oskar a bad choice. Naomi for a book called Animals. It is a story involving heavy cannibalism. Ophelia who kills her self in Hamlet is also on our long list.
So that doesn't really matter much to us.
