Progesterone and Sex?

Good Morning Ladies! Recently I was put on progesterone bc I'm measuring earlier than I thought and had no HB at my first u/s. However, my HCG levels are nice and high. Waiting to hear from the doctor today to see if my levels are increasing like they should be.

Anyways, I forgot to ask the doctor if it was safe to have sex on progesterone. Any of you ladies on progesterone have answers from your doctor?

Have a great day!

Re: Progesterone and Sex?

  • Unless your doctor said anything else, there is no connection between sex and progesterone. Make sure your DH wipes off his willy once you guys are done if you take suppositories, as that stuff works by penetrating skin. You don't want your DH to grow boobies, right? :-)

  • I am on progesterone orally and I was told no sex. I asked online and ladies had different experiences. Some said that they weren't told to no have sex and some (like me) were told no. I hope you get an answer from your doc soon.

    Everyone Welcome

  • I am on oral progesterone and I have never been told to avoid sex. But if you're unsure then I would suggest calling your doctor/nurse to ask
  • No one said not to. We do it usually in the am or evening right before I am supposed to take a new dose and after a shower.

  • I asked -- Midwife said just to do it before I put the pill in and it should be fine.

  • I was on the suppositories for the first 10 weeks and we asked our dr specifically. She said it was not a problem and we had no restrictions. I will say a couple times the pill had not dissolved completely and it was a little uncomfortable so watch out for that. I am 11 weeks now and it's SOOO much better now...I thought the progesterone caused a little irritation but it's fine now. Sorry for the graphic details LOL! Good luck!
  • My midwife said sex is fine, just to wait until after to put in the suppository. I do my progesterone at bedtime and we aren't really "night people" anyway so it hasn't been a problem.
