Tights/nylons rec

I have a holiday party tonight and my current arsenal of tights just aren't going to cut it. Anybody have luck with a particular brand/store of pregnancy tights? Worth the splurge? What about just buying up a few sizes in regular tights?

Re: Tights/nylons rec

  • The Mama Marvelous tights from the Spanx brand are awesome maternity tights.  I got them on Amazon for $18 and have worn them multiple times a week for the past four months.  They are very comfy through the belly with a lower support panel and haven't snagged yet!

I think Motherhood Maternity also carries them in the store.

I found most maternity tights pretty flimsy and hard to find in store. H&M Mama were super comfortable and durable but far too shiny.

I have been sizing up a full size in regular tights (I'm 30 weeks) and this works pretty well as long as I avoid control tops. Commando tights are normal tights with a wide flat waistband that is meant to be invisible and are amazingly comfortable for me now. They also show a lot less lines (especially the seam up the middle!) than any maternity tights I have tried.

Stocked here at Bloomingdales so I think other similar department stores would have them too.

If you want patterned maternity tights there are no great options. I have been buying non-control top regular tights either 1-2 sizes up. H&M is great for that because I didn't feel guilty if they didn't fit well or tore easily.
  • If your local Target carries maternity clothes, give their tights a try.  I bought a pair for my baby shower (they were about $16-$19) and I was happy.  Pretty comfy.
Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.

  • The Preggers ones are awesome, so supportive and have some compression to help with circulation. And you can get them real quick on Amazon.
  • Do you have to where tights or stockings? Mines tonight too and I'm wearing thigh highs.  With all the times I pee pulling up and down gets super annoying.  I had a wedding a few weeks ago and did this and it was amazing.  Plus I didn't have to buy special maternity ones.

This is really smart, and I hadn't even considered it! No reason they have to be full tights. I've never worn thigh highs--I'm guessing a department store like Macy's or something is the best place to buy? They really stay up?
  • Duckie23, did you end up finding something that worked well for the party? Most importantly though, was it a rockin' party? :)

I have a couple holiday parties coming up myself and am trying to figure out what to wear!

  • I got so frustrated with tights I started wearing tall socks or cutting the tights at the waist/middle front and wearing them low. I guess I'm pretty lazy, ha ha.

I got the tights monbon11 recommended because they were easy to get at Motherhood Maternity. They were super comfy on my belly, but a bit restricting on my thighs (and I sized up). If I had planned better and had more time, I totally would have tried to find some thigh highs. Genius suggestion!

The party was pretty rockin', but my favorite part was when my DH grabbed a bunch of desserts to go and we headed to the king-size bed waiting for us at the hotel across the street. :)
  • I love the full panel black Old Navy maternity tights. I could live in them and they were cheap.

Spanx makes really great maternity panty hose, too. It just depends on what look you're going for.

  • I went to mine on fri and wore my thigh highs.  I get them at nordstrom but can be any dept store.  They have a rubber ring on them so they stay up all night.  By far the best. I didn't need to pull them down every time I peed which was awesome. Plus they don't rip as easily since your not pulling them up all the time.
