Baby Names

classic names/old fashioned

DH wants our baby to have an old fashioned name. (We don't know what we're having yet) something really pretty for a girl but he's looking more into the 1920s and such, for baby names. Haven't come up with a single boy name yet. Any ideas? I would like something Spanish but DH doesn't really understand as much as I do so we're trying to compromise.

  • The top 10 boy names in the 1920s were Robert, John, James, William, Charles, George, Joseph, Richard, Edward and Donald. Most of those have Spanish equivalents: Roberto, Juan, Jorge, Jose, Ricardo, Eduardo. I'm also going to suggest Ignacio

For girls, the top 10 names were Mary, Dorothy, Helen, Betty, Margaret, Ruth, Virginia, Doris, Mildred and Frances. Again there are some Spanish equivalents: Maria, Elena. Other options are Marita and Francesca. Also throwing out Pilar and Paloma.

  • What about Cecilia or Carmen for a girl? Also love Elena.

Not much help with boy names as we are having trouble in the area right now trying to decide on a name for DS#2.
