uterine fibroid

I did a search on TB and didn't see a whole lot on fibroids aside from a passing mention, thought I woukd share my story from this week incase it might be helpful.

 I'm 17 weeks today. On Wednesday around dinner I started having a lot of cramping that felt like menstral cramps, mostly on the right. It kept me up all night long, miserable. Thursday morning I showed up at my OB when the doors opened. They found the HB with a doppler, and the ob tried a u/s but "couldnt see what I needed to see" so she sent me to the maternal fetal medicine office at the hospital. I made two of my homecare visits, gritting my teeth through the pain, and made it to the clinic for my 1pm appt. 

 After seeing some really neat images of the baby for the first time and seeing that everything was ok with little junior, the tech said "well i found whats causing your pain" There is a huge fibriod (7cm x 7cm) in my uterine wall right at the spot where all my pain is coming from. She told me it was bigger than the babys head (which I know at 17 weeks is pretty small, but Im a sucker for dramatic comparisons) The dr there sent me home to rry tylenol and a heating pad. 

 With no relief by 9pm, I called the on-call and they told me to take 600mg of ibuprofen to help the pain so I could sleep, then follow up wit the office int he morning. I slept some, but not great. This morning the pain is still here and by OB is calling in tylenol with codeine for me. Not crazy about taking a conrolled substance, but I'll try anything at this point.

 Has anyone ele had a similar experience? I know everyones different, but it you have has a painful fibroid maybe you have some answers to my questions: 

 1.) How long did the pain last? Weeks? Days?

 2.) Did you do anything about it after pregnancy? They are affected somewhat by hormones, so sometimes they shrink on their own. 

3.) Did you take anything for it? 

4.) Why wont they let me take more ibuprofen if other sources say its safe til 32 weeks? I have a regular appt scheduled on 12/17, hopefully by then things will have calmed down.

thanks - yeah they let me have it last night as a one time thing, my drug guides say its just contraindicated in 3rd tri.  I brought it up to the doc a few times and they always were like "yeaaaaaah take tylenol instead" so i haven't pressed it. and thank you!
