While disposable diapers may be more convenient, I will use cloth. Not only are they more cost efficient, but 100% times more environmentally friendly.
Did you know that they don't know how long it takes for a disposable diaper to decompose? Some sources say it could take up to 500 years for ONE diaper.
Here are a few sites:
Why Cloth?
The Diaper Drama - Environment (Diaper Pin)
Lets do the math. A newborn uses what, 8-10 diapers a day. They use a little less as they get older so lets say 5-8 in the toddler stages.. So over the course of 2-3 years your baby will use any where between 5,000-10,000 diapers in one child's life time.
Using disposable, you'll probably spend $1,500-2,000 in diapers for one child.
With cloth diapers you'd spend more up front, but less in the long run.
Re: S/O: Cloth vs. disposable
That may be so but it came off like this. It's one thing to share, it's another to preach.
(by the way, I plan to use CD too)
My decision to use disposable diapers is not a cost issue at all. I'm in an apartment and do not have my own washer and dryer. Trying to manage a baby with a washer and dryer 8 floors away (not to mention that they are communal washers with no utility tub) would make cloth diapering next to a nightmare. It's just not feasible for us. We're all for being green and do a lot of recycling, conserving, and reusing, this just won't be one of them. Maybe the fact that we don't own a car and use public transportation will make up for my baby being in disposable diapers!
I think it's to each his own. But for some people, cloth diapers just aren't feasible.
Uh - 2 minutes on google found several sites, articles, research, etc. on legit websites that contradict some of your original post. Not saying disposable is better, but your making several assumptions and presenting a very one-sided idea that is not reflective of all research on the full impact.
A bit less militant next time would be nice.
I didn't mean to come across preachy. Sorry
Hey Sara,
just an FYI on Bum Genious. My cousin used them and said she felt her son was going to get a rash because they don't absorb that well and his skin was always wet. She uses the old fashion cloth with that "T" looking thing for fit. (sorry I forgot the name of it). to each their own.
