we don't live near any of our family and we don't have a boat load of friends here. In addition to that we are pretty crunchy and have plans for getting and using the things we need in a green way. I think people might be put off with all our restrictions.

Hey Moo! My cousin just had a baby shower over the summer. ?She's just like you and didn't want one either, but her mother demanded since people were going to send her gifts anyways. ?My aunt and cousin came up with a really cute invitation and the theme of the shower was green & green things. ?
My cousin registered for things they wanted and if people were uncomfortable buying those things they established a fund in which they could donate in the baby's name or they could contribute to another fund in which they reduced their own carbon footprint. ?It was really neat and everyone learned a lot. ?Everyone was also asked to bring a gently used piece of fabric to put into a quilt for the baby.
It turned out to be a great thing because it was really just a celebration for the baby instead of the focus being on the gifts. ?We all know how boring it is to sit and watch the mom-to-be open 80 onesies for 3 hours. ?
We don't want anything plastic, we also try to live a life where the majority of our things we source from local resources. We just don't want a whole lot of stuff because people feel obligated to go out and spend money. We live by the 3 r's reduce, reuse, recycle. I will be making clothes and diapers out of recycled materials. I wouldn't mind if people would send us gently used things but still it's hard to explain to people our lifestyle and that we don't want our child to start out life with a huge carbon footprint

Re: moo, why are you not
What are you doing to be green? I'm tryin'
What restrictions would you be refering to? I bet you could come up with a cute invitation that worded your restrictions pretty cute.
