My husband's brother and his wife just had their first baby last week. Our first niece!
We want to gift them something helpful, not just another "thing" to take up space in their house.
Food service, meals delivered, house cleaning, massive amounts of diapers, a magical fairy that will help their baby sleep at night instead of all day? I'm struggling.
Looking for suggestions. To the already moms out there, what would you have loved to receive soon after you brought your LO home?

Also the babysitting idea is good, but can also put the parents in an awkward position if they aren't comfortable leaving the baby with someone yet. Offer to come over for a few hours to do anything at all they need, whether it's to watch baby so they can sleep, or do their laundry, wash dishes, vacuum, grocery shop or whatever else they need done. That way it's not putting pressure on them to leave the baby alone and gives them an opportunity for someone else to take care of shit piling up.

If she's breastfeeding, you could also do a little basket for her with lanolin, breast pads, nursing tanks, a water bottle or tumbler, easy snacks like granola bars. Maybe a cute nursing necklace - she won't use it right away but it's nice to think some day you will look human again.
