Headache relief?

I am in my 2nd trimester, just entered, almost 14 weeks. My nausea is still bad at night but mostly gone during the day which is great. What I am starting to struggle with now are splitting head-aches. I woke up this morning with a terrible one, like someone was jamming a knife in my left temple. I took tylenol the day before for a head-ache (didn't really help much) and didn't want to have to take it again! So, I laid down with an ice pack for 30mintue and now it's gone! I really hope this continues to work...just thought I would share. Has anyone else been getting headaches and finding what works and what doesn't?

Thanks!

Re: Headache relief?

  • My midwife recommended a glass of coke and some chocolate last time. Healthy? No but I suffer from migraines and it worked wonders last time so that's what I do. I figure it's better than popping Tylenol all day.

  • A little caffeine or sugar usually helps me! Yesterday I had some tea and orange slices and mine went away instantly. Whereas before it lasted for hours and hours.

  • A little caffeine definitely helps-it's actually one of the ingredients in Excedrin.  a little caffeine through chocolate, soda or coffee, plus lots of fluid (dehydration can cause headaches, and makes them worse), ice packs, and temple massage can also help.  Also lay down in a dark room.  If all else fails, Tylenol is supposed to be very safe in pregnancy but always follow the dosing.

  • I will try the coffee and chocolate...just a little ;) sounds good
  • you can take Tylenol (not ibuprofen) safely during pregnancy although I generally find for myself Tylenol isn't helpful with severe headaches
  • I've been taking Tylenol. It's helpful and I also try to make sure that I am hydrated.

  • I drank a can of coke and my headache went away instantly, Not sure if it was coincidence but I don't usually drink soda and it did the trick right away! Try one of those little cute baby cans of coke.
  • Hi there!! For me, the headaches always mean I am a little dehydrated. I drink a little water and within 20 minutes the headache is pretty much gone. It may not work for everyone but maybe it will help someone :0)
  • My migraines are caused by allergies. Docs office said Tylenol, sudafed-d, and a coke was the most I could take. Sudafed is a life saver
  • My headaches have been very bad as well. Last night I woke up and it felt like my head was splitting. I think I have been drinking enough water so it must be the hormones. Tylenol does not seem to work for me. I have tried a little caffeine and while the headache subsides, it comes back at night. It's like being hungover all day. Is Sudafed for those with allergies only? If not, maybe I have a sinus headache. A girl at work told me I may be low on iron so I bought some prunes (I have heard they are high in iron) and are making sure to take my prenatal which has 28mg, the recommended daily dose of iron I believe
  • With my DD, I had terrible headaches. My OB then told me to drink a glass of coke and take a tylenol because its equivalent to an excedrin.

  • Peppermint essential oil. I use doTerra
  • I got really bad constant headaches before I was pregnant but they seem to have gone away for now. What helped me was gatorade, using a netipot, and those gel eye masks thrown in the freezer.
  • I do not have terrible headaches but a friend mentioned to me that she had horrible migranes. Apparently they have a prescription you can get for migranes however it is only safe once your in the 2nd or 3rd trimester.
