How to incorporate frozen milk?

Hey everyone- I haven't posted before but I lurk and I haven't seen this asked before (if I missed it let me know).

I have a good frozen milk supply (close to 100 oz) but how should I use it since I'm still pumping 2x at work? Any suggestions on how others use their frozen milk would be great I don't want to waste any of it!

  • Thanks for the quick responses! I had to go back to work quick bc I work in a family business and I started pumping after he ate at 6 to increase supply (was stressed bc I wasn't producing enough during the day to feed him) I think doing that helped a lot but now that supply is good I'm trying to figure out how/when to use it

  • All the above are great ideas. Personally, I'm hanging on to my extras and will replace it with new milk when it is close to expiring in case DD's intake starts to exceed my outtake.

Another idea that won't work with your already frozen milk, but would with milk you freeze in the future-- my SIL made "baby popsicle" with her milk to give to my nephew to suck/chew on when he was teething. Just buy a popsicle mold and freeze your milk in them and viola! (I just googled it, and apparently the lid of a gerber bottle and a paci work just as well!)

  • I would caution that you try to give your baby some frozen milk before you return to work to see if he/she will take it.  I have a lipase issue and my baby HATES my frozen milk and will only drink fresh.  I had built such a stash, I was so disappointed.  She will tolerate half frozen, half fresh in a pinch, but bottom line is I always have to have fresh on hand.  For that reason I do an extra pump at work so I can have a little extra for "emergency" scenarios.  Just a thought, and good luck!!
