If you know the sex of your baby, a question:

edited December 2014 in May 2015 Moms

So rumor has it if you can only come up with a certain sex’s name (before finding out), that is the sex you end up having.
ie: ”I really love Quentin for a boy’s name, but just can’t think of a girl’s name”… (then you find out it’s a boy).

Out of pure curiosity, did this ring true for you?

I have nothing important to say here.. but I wanted to ask how you would pronounce "Quentin"?
    That's actually my 6 yr old son's name. :)
    It's QUINN-TEN.

  • Nope!  I was 100% convinced I was having another boy this time around and had a name I really liked, then... we found out we were having a girl!  Total shock.  Having a tough time thinking of girl names.
Baby girl born on May 15, 2015!  (DS born 2011)
  • Would you pronounce Quentin and Quinton the same? Just curious.

DH and I find out the sex next week at our anatomy scan and we only have a girls name picked out... So I guess we'll see.
  • Nope. The only name we could think of/agree on was Abigail, and then we found out DS was going to be a boy.
This time I'm thinking of boy names, so we'll see...
  • This was actually true for DD - with DS we already had names we liked for each sex before we got pregnant so it didn't ring true then

     DD born Oct 2011 - DS#1 born Jan 2014 - DS#2 born Apr 2015 - DS#3 born Sept 2016 - LO#5 due Feb 7, 2018

  • It's true for me this time- I had a million girl names and it's a girl! But I also have 2 boys so I've already exhausted my boys' name list twice.

  • Would you pronounce Quentin and Quinton the same? Just curious.

Yes. Quentin is the "proper" and original spelling. It came before Quintin or Quinton.
  • We had already made some lists for our lost baby, so we just revisited them!

  • Not for me, we had a girl name picked out but were stumped on a boy name.  Found out Tuesday it's a boy.

  • No true for me, nor was it for my best friend.  Luckily, we came up with a girl name after a few weeks.

    Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility

  • It's not 100%, but the tech and my OB have guessed that our baby is a boy and so far we have only been able to come up with boy names so I guess it's likely true for us.

I'll find out for sure what baby is next week.

  • We have always struggled with girl names. DD was a struggle to name. #1 was a girl. Then when we found out twins it was like banging head on glass to come up with two names for a girl just in case. Turns out we only needed one girl and got to use our original boy name from 3 years ago!

  • This was true for me. Before I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to name our daughter Penelope Mae. After I got pregnant, I couldn't think of any boy names I liked...and it's a girl ;)

  • It did work that way for us. I liked a few of our girl names but wasn't sure about making any of them a reality. DH and I were certain about our boy name, and we've got a boy on the way!
  • This is true in my case -
DH and I would only discuss boy names, just because girls name never came up!
And we found out we are expecting a boy last weekend :x

    Interesting.
Now that I think about it, I only had a boy name chosen when pg with DS, and only had a girl name chosen with pg with DD.
This time? I have had a girl name chosen since 6 weeks pregnant and also a runner up girl name, and then 2 possible boy names that I am really unsure of (not sure if I like them), so I guess we will see if it's a girl.
  • It was the opposite for us. We had a girl's name ready to go and could not decide on a boy's name. We found we are having a boy at 13 weeks and still cannot decide on a name.

  • With DD1 we instantly came up with and agreed upon a girl name that we loved. This time around, we were having a harder time with girl names and already had our boy name picked out. It's another girl though!

  • Not true for me....first time around we could only find girl names we liked...had a boy.

This time we found out really early (via Verifi test) so didn't bother with names till we found out. It is a girl and we have no clue what to name her!

  • Not with my first. We had a boy name picked and found out it was a girl. We are more solid on boy names this time around, too, although we don't know the sex yet. It seems boy names are just easier for us.

  • Nope, not with this kid.  We had a girl name picked out, but it's a boy.  And we don't have a clue what we are going to name him.

It was true with DD, though.  Even though I was convinced she was a boy at first, we had a girl name picked out very early.  Boy names stumped us then, too.

  • That happened to us. My husband and I could only come up with boy names. And finally the ultrasound confirmed it was a boy!!! We settled for Malachi James
  • For fun, right?

This is my 6th pregnancy, but 3rd child (God willing). With my first two, we had girl names picked instantly and struggled with boy names.

    We have two boys.

This time we had a boy name picked quickly, and we are having a girl.

So it's always been opposite for me than the theory you've heard!

  • Funny. Never heard of this one, but yes- both kids it was actually true for us!
  • I thought I was having a girl, I had a girl's name all picked out-Margaret Elizabeth (Maggie)-a family name. Of course it's a boy and my husband and I could not agree on anything. We finally picked out a name we both liked, William (family name as well) but it took us a few days to agree.

  • Nope! I had girl names I loved and felt in my gut it's a girl... Turns out he's a boy! We're just as excited but have to start from scratch with names!
  • YES!!!! We had trouble ever picking a boys name but picked a girls so easy & then found out this week we're having a little girl :)
  • We decided that we both loved a specific girl name a few years ago when we were just "best friends", now 4 years later we are having a girl and get to use our name!
  • This was only true with this pregnancy. My first two we had both a boy and girl name picked out and agreed on. This time around, we could only come up with girl's names. Boy names totally eluded us. We found out at 11 weeks we were having a girl!

  • I had a name picked for a girl since i was inhigh school, lamia :), when we found out we were pregnant i found a boy's name i liked but my husband didn't like it at all..

    And guess what it's a girl! :D
  • Nope! We agreed on a boy name but we couldn't agree on a girl name until after we found out it was a girl!
  • True for DS. We only had a boy name we agreed on and it was a boy. This time we only agree on a girl name and we find out Sunday if that's true!

  • I felt like I was having a girl because I had same symptoms that I had with DD. I am having a girl but had nothing to do with the names though!
