Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit vs ZipadeeZip

Looking to start shifting baby out of a full swaddle to a swaddle transition and it seems like te Merlins Sleep Suit and ZipadeeZip are the two primary options.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these? They are each about 40 bucks, so trying or avoid buying both if at all possible.

Re: Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit vs ZipadeeZip

  • We used Magic Merlin's for DS1 and now with DS2.  They both started STTN in their cribs within a week or 2 of using it.  LO has been stretching out his sleep gradually with it and last night went 10 hours straight.  We love it and our daycare was happy to see it when we brought it in with DS2 yesterday for his first day.  They've had really good luck with babies napping in sleepsuit and are actually going to show ours to other parents whose babies had trouble sleeping and encourage them to get it for their LO's.

  • Thanks for the input! Do you find the suits to be thick/hot? That was my biggest concern because DD runs really warm and we live in a warmer area.
  • We have one from when DS1 was a baby (2 years ago) and ordered another one for LO for daycare last week.  The new ones are definitely lighter material (cotton rather than fleece) and less bulky than the older one is. It does keep them warm but I never have felt like they got too hot.  We always have ceiling fan on low for circulation and put them in a cotton sleeper then the Sleepsuit and they've always been fine.

  • We received the zipadeezips as a gift she had told us she purchased the three month size I haven't even tried using it yet ... Had to stop using our velcro swaddles because LO rolls in her sleep getting her to sleep by herself is still a task SO can't get her to sleep by herself and I just went back to work yesterday and don't get home until almost midnight so we need to figure something out
  • @herecomesthesun086 if you decide to try it out let us know if it works!
  • If it's not too big I'll try it tonight
  • I pulled the sleeves inside a Carter's fleece sleep sack and zipped LO up in it and he slept great. I felt pretty smart for making a makeshift zipadeezip and not having to buy one.

  • I have a zipadee type swaddle where he can bring his hands to his mouth. It worked fine but we saw no change in his sleeping. We just purchased the Merlin's magic sleepsuit last week and he's gone from 2 hour stretches to a 5,3 and 2 hour pattern. Much improved. Who knows if it will last but I think the suit is helping a lot. As for the suit, it takes the place of a blanket so I just have him in a short sleeve onsie and he seems fine. His hands are cold, but I don't know how to help that. I suppose you would have the same problem if you weren't using anything.

  • Bahahaha We still aren't in our crib 90% of the nights.. I'll just go ahead and lay down and cry when swaddling stops being the answer. Although I'll have to keep the whole tuning the Carter sleeves inside out thing in mind, we have a couple of those.

  • This zipadeezips zip looks like it's for a baby twice the size of mine!
  • We have both....we use the zippadee zip for naps and the sleepsuit over night.  I prefer the sleepsuit over the zippadee zip, but we have only have the zippadee zip for a month or so, where as we used the sleep suit with DS....so it may just be that the sleep suit is what I am more familiar with.   Once we used the sleep suit over night with DD, she started sleeping better (although she is a crappy sleeper either way).  I like it because it is puffy and keeps her warm.  She is super cold alot though, so I think she likes it because she stays warm. They do make cotton ones now, so that is an option over the fleece.

I have had friends like both of these products or hate one or the other...I think you just have to try what works with your LO. Maybe a friend has one you could borrow and try?

  • We use the Merlin and LOVE IT!  It helped us transition from the swaddle and into the crib at the same time and we have had a great sleeper ever since.  I just saw a great video on you tube where a mom did a LONG but good review on you tube

    Good luck with your decision!

  • @burtonsbaby‌, how random is it that the only 7 posts you have are months apart and ALL are about the sleep suit? image ETA: Your baby also changes gender between posts. Are you getting paid for this, because if so, your boss needs to find a more dedicated sales mole.
oh man does that qualify as spam?? even though she's not starting new posts.
