Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone have spotting in 2nd or 3rd tri?

I'm 28 weeks 4 days. Last night I had a checkup with my ob and my cervix has been sensitive lately. I get internal sonos all the time because they check on my cervical length and cerclage each visit and this time when he took the wand out it hurt a little. When I got home I had some spotting, very mild and after thar time it was gone and no spotting since. Should I be concerned or call the doctor??? Even though it's gone I don't know if the spotting is concerning enough to call his emergency # .. Ughhhh PGAL is so hard :/ any advice ?

  • PAL lurker, living child ticker below...

I read your post and wanted to reply because I did have one day of spotting late in pregnancy. I don't remember exactly how far along...sometime after 32 weeks. At any rate, I had spotting and had just had an u/s the previous day where baby looked fine. I freaked out and called my OB and they were kind and did another u/s for me, even though they said it was probably fine. DH was out of town so I had a friend drive me because I couldn't keep it together. I was terrified and bawled the entire way there and struggled to keep it together in the waiting room but all was well. DD was just fine. We never did figure out what the spotting was but the peace of mind did me good.

From your description it does sound like it was more than likely your exam but if you feel like you need to call the office, do it. That's what they are there for. Hugs to you and I hope you can find peace of mind today. PgAL brain sucks but chances are LO is just fine.

  • I have had on/off brown to pink spotting since 17 weeks (I will be 34 weeks on Thursday). My doctor asks me about it at every appointment, but she is not concerned. The cervix is very sensitive (and vascular) during pregnancy. I just always am sure to watch it and make sure it stays as spitting and nothing more.

  • I have had spotting on and off this whole pregnancy. 6w, 10w, 16w, 18w and 20w... I just went today for a follow up and he basically said that at this point he thinks that I have an extremely sensitive cervix that bleeds easy. I do have a low lying placenta which may or may not attribute to some of this too. He basically said that from this point out if I am not bleeding, cramping, having pressure, not feeling baby or have signs of another round of BV, that I can attribute the spotting to my sensitive cervix.

Lots of Hugs, I know that any type of abnormal is un-nerving. I would say if it comforts you, then call the number... It took me until the 2nd tri ones to call the emergency number, but like my doctor said, that is what its there for.

  • I have had 2nd or 3rd tri spotting with all of my pregnancies. With my sons they could never find a cause. This time there is a hemorrhage under my placenta so I have had on and off spotting for weeks now. Since you just had the exam I would expect that was the cause. It never hurts to let your doctor know though!

  • Thanks so much for replying ladies. I literally have a vaginal sono every single week so I thought it was just irritation but it was scary none the less. I don't want to annoy my ob with every little thing lol so I just needed some peace of mind. If it comes back or I get any pains I will definitely call.
