Got a prescription for OT - for sensory

This is in addition to speech therapy to help her eat age appropriate solids.  Can anyone tell me what OT will be like?

My son has OT. The therapist works mostly on fine motor skills, by drawing with a crayon, putting puzzle pieces in a puzzle, stuff like that. She also works with him on eating. She started out using a lollipop to put in his mouth to help them become desensitized to certain sensations. She tries different things every week to help him get used to different feelings and textures. He has a lot of sensory issues, especially when it comes to eating, and she has had some great suggestions to help us out with that. He is made a lot of progress in just a few months. She sees him every week for about an hour. She also works with him on his grasping skills and more complicated ways of playing, if that makes sense.

  • She had her evaluation this past Thursday and it seems like they're going to start off with her touching dry pasta, beans and rice?  She'll be going once a week and I was very lucky to be able to schedule it the hour right after her speech therapy appts.

  • Loading the player...
  • DS does that, too. They had us have him touch different textures (like DH's beard, the dog's fur, carpet) in the beginning, and now he does sensory tubs at home filled with pasta, rice, etc. It has helped desensitize him a lot and he's more willing to try new stuff now.

  • PS - I'm usually mobile and can't see siggies but I just saw the pic of your DD. Holy ravioli, that is one cute kid. I want to smooch her. In an internet stranger, non-creepy way.

  • She started OT this week and did pretty well.  Since it was the first appt we didn't get very far, but she loved playing with the dry rice :)

We gave her a bubble bath last week and bless her heart she kept her arms raised so they wouldn't touch the bubbles.  She tried to lift her legs up too.  Bad mommy....
