Preemies

My Intro

i just delivered our second son yesterday, at 32w6d after going into preterm labor unexpectedly. I thought I was having really bad BH at first but quickly discovered it was real labor and showed up at the hospital at 7cm. Owen was 5.06lbs and 18.25 inches. Our hospital transfered him to a Level 3 NICU. It has all been very overwhelming and hasn't really sunk in yet. Luckily he seems to be doing okay, and is on a CPAP and also an NG tube.

I look forward to having a place to turn to for questions/good thoughts from people who have been through similar situations before. Nice to "meet" you all!

Re: My Intro

  • This is a great group of women.   Hope your NICU stay is short.

I also had a 32 weeker, and she was in the NICU 25 days.

  • Thank you all! I think the hardest part is all of the emotional struggles, especially with a 3 year old at home (an hour away). We are now down to room air and have started feeding with the NG tube/attempting to nurse.

  • Hi Maranda,

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's hard, and none of us wishes it on anyone. Please come and ask questions (or simply vent) as much as you need to.

Our son was born via emergency c-section due to in utero cardiac arrest at 32w. He was in the NICU for 30 days. Typically, white baby boys are the weakest babies and have the longest NICU stays. So, while some of the girl 32/33-weekers had shorter stays, you might prepare yourself for a little bit longer.

I hope Owen has a smooth stay in the NICU and gets stronger every day. Keep your head up. It's a hard road, but I know you can do it. ((hugs))

  • Congratulations on your beautiful son. I have an Owen who is a 32 weeker as well (32w 1d) hang in there momma, you will find a lot of support here. It sounds like he is making GREAT progress so far.
