Does anyone else thinking looking for a car seat is super stressful. What type of car seats have you gotten and what made you pick that one? There are just so many options it's a bit overwhelming
I started out looking at what price point I was comfortable spending. All car seats pass the same safety tests, so from there, it was a very materialistic choice of finding a pattern/color that I liked. From friends and family, I knew they liked their Chicco Keyfits, so that's the one we ended up going with.
I also checked out the Baby Bargains book when I was in the beginning stages and used their ratings to steer me to their highly rated seats in my price range.
Infant seats, that depends on a lot of things. Do you want to be able to keep them in it for almost a year, then you might want one that goes to 35in/35 lbs. If you are like me and only keep them in there for 6 mo then you dont need a higher limit.
The convertibe is more important, you should be rfing till at least 2 so you want at least a 40" hight and 40 lb weight limit. There are plenty to choose from based on your car. Carseatsforthelittles its great

We have a Britax b safe for infant seat. Safety was a big factor but it also has a high height and weight limit (DH is almost 6 ft and I'm 5'9) Right now were using a graco convertible (don't know which model) because it was given to us by a close family friend who hardly used it. It expires soon and were going to get a diono radian RXT because of the height limits and because they are made narrow so I could potentially fit 3 across my car if needed.
Not all infant seats are created equal, although yes, if used correctly they are all safe. However, some have too high lowest harness slots, so they will be coming from above your newborn's shoulders. For rear facing, straps must come from BELOW the shoulders. So essentially, you could buy an infant (or convertible) seat that would not fit your newborn, even if it's rated to 5lbs.
If you are planning on using an infant seat from the beginning, I would hold off on purchasing a convertible so you get the most out of the life of the seat before it expires.
The best seat is the one that fits in your car best and fits baby best. Obviously we need the seat before baby comes so trying seats in your car is a must.
We are trying to fit three across in DH car and tried out combos yesterday.
My 3yo will be in harnessed britax frontier, my 6yo will be in a high back graco turbo booster (in middle seat) and baby will be in a chicco keyfit 30.
We tried the graco click connect and loved how the base fit but the arm of the seat was too wide (where it folds back if that makes sense).
Try out the seats in your car before buying just in case it doesn't sit well.

We got the Chicco Keyfit 30, also. We liked the ratings and that it is super easy to use. Hubby and I are disagreeing on convertible car seats though, which is fine because he can have one for his truck and I can have one for mine! He wants a Safety 1st because of the price, I am dead set on the Britax cowmooflauge because it will be the last car seat she uses, I don't mind spending the extra money. I can't deny that print! Haha
We are a Chicco family. We loved the Keyfit, and now we love the Nextfit. They are well made, safe seats with great ratings, and the installation is so easy it's idiot-proof.
Our one year old used a Chicco Key Fit 30 as an infant seat and this baby will use it as well. I love it. It was so easy to install and not too bulky. My one year old now has the Chicco Next Fit. It has been wonderful so far.
To be honest I would go to a store like babies r us that has the seat you can attempt to install seats in. Try out every seat you are considering. If you can't install it quickly and perfectly do not buy it. Then take the seat to your car and try it there. You can look up which seats install well in your particular car (s) online before you go, but if you cannot do it yourself it doesn't matter how highly rated it is. Look at how easy it is to tighten the straps and get the baby out. I would not buy a Graco myself because of all the Graco recalls. The fact that they did not recall the infant seat straps knowing they were the same as the toddler seats for months puts the company in questionable light for me. The Chicco Key fit is one of the best seats because the most people can safely and correctly install it, the straps are easy to adjust and it is compatible with a lot of strollers.
