Connor Owen and Finn Jacob were born last Tuesday, November 18 at 4:56 PM and 4:57 PM by scheduled repeat C-section. We were scheduled for 10 AM but got bumped back all day. The spinal wasn't completely effective and it was the most uncomfortable thing I think I have ever experienced, but not necessarily painful. The anesthesiologist said it was the second questionable spinal they had and that he was going to check Lot number on the batch. Eesh.
Baby A came out and everyone said whoa! That was Connor and he weighed in at a whopping 7 lbs. 15 oz. Finn came next and he was breech (which we knew) with his cord wrapped around his neck tightly twice. The obstetrician said that it was probably good that we didn't try a vag delivery because we would have likely run into problems. Finn weighed in at a "tiny" 6 pounds even.
After surgery I had uterine atony and my ute wouldn't contract. They pumped me full of oxytocin and cyctotec and practically stomped on my abdomen (ok, exaggeration) to get the bleeding under control. I escaped a blood transfusion though. We were home less than 48 hours after they were born.
It seems that Connor is a little tongue-tied and wasn't nursing as effectively as we thought and he lost quite a bit of weight and became jaundiced. We have been supplementing with formula and breast milk when I can pump enough extra. He's got a good latch but we just need to work on the milk transfer. I hope he gets the hang of it because tandem nursing would be far easier than feeding two babies separately and pumping in between. Otherwise we are all good. Other than the issue immediately after surgery, my C-section recovery has been fine. My blood pressure is a little high but I'm keeping an eye on that and will talk to my family doctor next week.
And without further ado here is a picture of Connor and Finn on their first day of life. Connor is in the yellow hat and Finn is in blue.
