Do you worry about the number on your doppler? (High number this morning)

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but usually I can't get a number to read on my Sonoline. Today I had it on for less than a minute for my biweekly listen (I'm a spaz about using it too much) and it jumped to 168--- which is so much higher than anything I've ever picked up at home. I'm almost 18w. (The only time it was higher was our 8w at 182--- which seriously could have been because I was such a nervous wreck that morning.) I'm still a nervous wreck and so I just suppose I'm wondering if a heart rate that high can be a problem. For what it's worth, I had a glass of OJ about 30 minutes before, but I suppose that seems kind of like a small thing to lead to a higher BPM

  • The number has never been correct for me. I count the beats. A "normal" HR is 120-160 and they have accelerations 10-20 beats higher.

  • I agree with PPs. My numbers range from 120s to 150s on my Doppler. It seems like the one at the OB office is more accurate (and probably much more expensive!)

Question to everyone-sometimes the Doppler will register with a # in the 120-150s but I'm not always hearing the heartbeat at the same time. Can it pick up the rate without actually being able to hear it?

  • 168 is a normal number to begin with. I never even trust the number on that machine, I always count it.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Well I took a nap since I'm off today and tried the doppler again for a minute and it picked up 153 at it's highest point. So hopefully it's just me worrying for nothing.
