Any Canadians still planning on leaving the country?

Just curious if any Canadian Mamas plan to travel to the States (or internationally) in light of the Saskatchewan couple with the million dollar tab?.........We were planning on going away at the beginning of January and we have changed our minds now. I had a SCH, which I'm sure would be consider "pre-existing" and I'm sure they would use my AMA much the same.........(referring to a Canadian woman who gave birth at 6 months while on vacay in Hawaii and her insurance denied her, just in case anyone was wondering.)

  • First I was planning to for to Mexico and got scared off due to quality of care. Then I was thinking about the US to at least beat the snow... The SK couple live about an hour from me. Decided to staycation instead....

1 on earth, 2 in heaven watching over us.

  • We're going to Florida and the Bahamas from Ontario at the end of January. I'll be 23 weeks along gone for two weeks. Make sure you have good insurance that covers you and your baby. Many people have traveled with no complications in the past. It's always a risk.
  • That was absolutely terrible. It sounded like they have a good defense to fight the charges though. They were told they were all set by the insurance agent and their doctor said the early arrival of the baby had nothing to do with the "pre-existing condition." Just terrible
  • I wouldn't even travel to Vancouver from Alberta when I was in my 3rd trimester. I always plan for the worst and I knew that if baby came early and had complications I would be stuck in a city far from home for god knows how long and I wasn't comfortable with that. Our family vacation this year will be to the West Edmonton Mall haha But were making a weekend of it and its only an hour and a half from home. Will be fun for the 2 year old as well. As much as I NEED to get away from the cold, I'm not willing to risk it.

  • Also, in regards to them fighting it, they have a VERY good case. I've been fighting with an insurance company for my condo for over 2 years now and it just settled, in my favour. Insurance companies are in the business of making money, not paying out, so of course they denied their claim. If they get a good lawyer and take it to court, I think they have a good chance of getting the claim paid.
