Early gestational diabetes

Anyone diagnosed with early gd? I had it with my first and just got diagnosed at 13 weeks :( starting the whole blood sugar checks and possible insulin. Looking for some support!

Re: Early gestational diabetes

  • I am 17 weeks on Thursday and just got my results for my 1 hr and failed miserably. My result was 181. I take the three hour next week but I'm thinking I'll fail that one to so I'm going to go ahead now and start a low carb diet and once I get results back see what my dr says. I'm not sure if I'll do meds or what. I'm honestly clueless as to how it all works. I had asked for the test based off of my bodies responses to different foods I would eat I thought I may have it. I also have some weight to loose and have pcos and am already insulin resistant so I guess I'll be joining you. I asked my dr why she couldn't have called after thanksgiving lol. Crazy thing is I haven't gained any weight I've actually lost 2 pounds overall.

Well anyways. Good luck to you! I hope we both can manage it and have healthy babies.

I was diagnosed at 6 weeks :( They tested my A1C? I had gestational with my first pregnancy, so they wanted to catch it early. I am already on insulin...
  • I didn't know they checked this early... my dad has very severe diabetes, and at my first midwife appointment my midwife had said they would definitely check. Do you think I should follow up with that then? When do you normally get diagnosed?

  • @shmeell25 thanks! I go for my next appointment at 20 weeks, so I guess I'll just confirm then, whether they will test at around 20 weeks or later, at one of the next appointments.

  • My understanding is that if you have an elevated A1C at your first prenatal labs, you don't have gestational diabetes, you have type II diabetes. Your A1C is a three month average sugar indicator, so 6wks into pregnancy it would not be elevated yet.
