July 2015 Moms

very stupid question, sorry!

You guy's keep talking about your beta numbers or levels? What is that and where and when (or how often) is it checked. I'm from South Africa and things work differently here. At 4 weeks I saw a general practitioner that confirmed the pregnancy. After that you wait till week 8 for your ultrasound with your gynecologist. Nothing in between.

Re: very stupid question, sorry!

  • Beta levels are usually only checked in cases of fertility treatments or previous losses. It's not the normal for everyone here.

Yep - My HCG levels were tested because I was working with an IF specialist, and had had a mc.  I was labeled "supervised high risk pregnancy".  They test the levels of HCG in your blood to make sure the levels are increasing at the correct rate.

Not necessary for normal low risk pregnancies.
