Should I tell my family yet?

I'm 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. First day of my last period was Oct. 15. Anyway, I have not yet had my 1st appointment, but I know I'm certainly pregnant based on 2 BFP and my recent symptoms. 

DH and I were thinking about waiting to tell our families (parents, siblings, etc) until Christmas, but I don't know HOW I'm going to be able to visit my family next week for Thanksgiving and stay at my parent's house and not tell them. It's so hard to keep it a secret! Currently I don't have morning sickness, but I'm not exactly 100% normal either (have nausea, fatigue, general crankiness) and I think the MS is gonna be starting any day now.

Hi, I guess it's a totally personal choice. I'm 8 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy and so worried something might happen that my partner and I are waiting until after 12 week scans to inform anyone, including family. So that will be 23rd December :-). I'm finding it difficult to stay quiet but I personally don't want everyone getting really excited over their 1st grandchild before week 12. I guess the benefits of telling them earlier is support if you need it. I've had no MS as yet. So hoping it stays that way!

I'm the same!!! We havnt had our first scan! I had a scan last week as I had fallen off my horse (didn't know I was pregnant when I rode-not riding now I know) and I wanted to get checked! I had a scan and they couldn't find baby I had to stay in over night to make sure it's not an ectopic pregnancy and have had bloods etc.... Our first scan where we will see our baby will be Wednesday!!!! Hope we can see him/her!


I'm glad we didn't tell everyone tho as I couldn't bare all that stress! We've told our parents and siblings and that's it! We are waiting till 2 months to tell everyone!

I've told my family. I'm awful at keeping secrets and I would want them to be there for me in case something did happen.

It's your decision. If you and your DH agree to say something at Thanksgiving, that's totally up to you.

We are telling people we would have told if something happened. I didn't want to tell my ILs but they have been pushing for #2 so I rather tell them now.

I've told one friend. I'm telling my mom on Christmas (around 8 weeks) but nobody else will know until 12 weeks.

We are waiting until Christmas Eve and then an xmas party later that weekend we are throwing to tell all of our friends. We will be 12 weeks then. I am just so afraid something will go wrong and this will be the first grandchild in my family. We have had a lot of tragities and I keep imagining telling my family then something awful happening. Hope that helps! However everyday a little part of me wants to tell them. Good luck! This is such an exciting time for us all!

It's a personal choice. Telling people won't cause a miscarriage, you just have to know that those are people you would have to tell if something went wrong.

If you go back a week or so, you will see a lot of people have posted on this same topic. You will get tons of answers from tons of people by scrolling through! (A lot were "should we tell at Thanksgiving?") congrats!

I think we're going to tell over Thanksgiving.  I just had a miscarriage in September and I think it would've been even harder to go through it if no one had known about it (if I had waited to tell them I was pregnant until further along in the pregnancy).  I had so many people keeping me in their prayers and supporting me- especially my family, friends, and my coworkers when I went back to work.  So, my point- I'm all for telling the news early on!

We told my parents almost immediately and will be telling my in-laws over Thanksgiving when we'll only be about 6 weeks.  I'd rather have immediate family know now rather than later, even if something was to happen.  My sister knows and my brother will find out when he gets home from college for the holiday.  I also told one good friend, but she can keep a secret.  And everyone knows if something was to go wrong, they'd be responsible for sharing the bad news with whomever they've spilled the secret to.  We might tell other family members at Christmas when I'll be nine weeks and then be pretty open about it after the first tri.

I am telling my husband's family at Christmas. We will be 9 weeks and would have just had our first appointment and, hopefully heard the heartbeat. I am going to try to hold out until 12 weeks to tell my family because they live 1000 miles away but we just happen to have a trip planned to visit them in Jan.

Otherwise only my best friend currently knows

Thanks for all the feed back! I think I will tell at Thanksgiving since it's just my immediate family and grandparents who are gonna be there. I think I'm going to get an Xmas ornament that says "Worlds Best Grandma" or something for my mom. I'll wrap it up and tell her I wanted them to be able to enjoy it for the Christmas season which is why she gets to open it early.
