Dental drama part 2 and a question

So because of life experience I basically get second opinions about everything and tonight I got one for my lost filling saga. The bad news: both dentists agree I have to probably have an X-ray done and then a have a small cavity cleaned out. :( Confusing news: Dentist 2 wants to check it every month and buy me as much time as possible so I'm farther along. Dentist 1 was more inclined toward 2nd tri due to weight.

My OB's concern was that it doesn't get inflamed. He wants me to "take care of it" but I don't remember him giving me a time frame- just to not let it get inflamed. Soooo.... What now?! Dentist 2 is calling OB on Monday and if he can get through the nurse gatekeepers he's a tougher person than I am. I hope he does though; I'd like to hear more info.

The biggest (new concern) I have is my breathing. I felt like it was harder to breathe in the chair and I'm not sure if it was anxiety or my position, but it genuinely felt heavier. I told the dentist and he talked like it's not a big deal because I wouldn't be down long.

What can people tell me about second tri vs third tri?

  • I would personally be leaning more towards 2nd trimester because of the increased weight as well. The increased weight will be harder on you back if you are lying on it for long periods of time

  • If I'm not mistaken they both said it's ok to get it fixed now. Go ahead and get it fixed while everything is fine, don't wait until the shit hits the fan. Like you said, your OB worries about it getting inflamed, why even chance it?
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • They both sound really invested in you and your well-being. That's really awesome you found two caring dentists! You now have 3 medical professionals encouraging you to get it taken care of, so I would do it. Also, I may be in the same boat as you (cavity with possibility of root canal) and I have terrible anxiety with the dentist. Trouble breathing, migraines, etc. Anyways- all the reading I've done, if I end up needing to make this decision- I would do it in the 2nd trimester. I just read that's the best time to do it. Also, the 3rd tri has some other drug sensitivities and stuff like that. So I would just vote for 2nd tri. Go with whichever dr you feel comfortable with, they both seem great. Good luck. Try to remind yourself it's a finite period of time: A couple hours after you go in, you'll be back home and it will be behind you. You can forget your dental drama and focus on getting baby ready!
