2 month shots

How were your kiddos after the 2 month vaccinations? My guy seems ok but he's had some diarrhea, is a bit fussy nursing, and is more clingy. I was reading that the diarrhea can be from the oral rotavirus vax but just wondering how other LOs are doing.

Re: 2 month shots

  • My LO had stomach issues for about 3 days after vaccines.
  • Loading the player...
  • LO was very fussy and clingy for about two days.
  • DD seemed fine. She slept a lot that day/night, and would fuss if her legs were moved around too much that evening. Tylonal helped with the leg soreness, and she was back to herself the next day. The worst part was watching her reaction to getting them.

  • Ditto to what others said about the leg soreness, we gave him some Tylenol after he woke up from a long nap because he screamed when we touched his legs to change his diaper. The next day he was totally fine.

  • DD just got hers today...screamed for about 10 minutes after the shots, then had a sleepy afternoon. She is spitting up more than normal, and is irritable during diaper changes which she usually loves and smiles through, but overall she is tolerating them better than expected.

  • DS also just got his today. He cried when they gave him the shots but we BF right after, which helped him go right to sleep. He was down for over two hours and woke up upset so I gave him some Tylenol. Here's to hoping all LO's getting their shots feel better!

  • Our pedi does appointments at 6 weeks. I didn't notice much difference in DD last week with these vaccines. However when my twins received shots during their first year they were very cranky for a day or two but slept really well.

  • DS got his in the afternoon and was really fussy that evening. I gave him a bath and he screamed the entire time and he never does, he loves baths. So I gave him some Tylenol and rocked him and he slept like a rock. The next morning he had a 100.1 fever so I gave him some more Tylenol and he was back to normal that afternoon. DD was like that, she was really fussy after her two month shots, I gave her Tylenol and she was fine the next day. She never had any other problem with shots after that. I hope he's like her.
  • DS screamed while getting the shots but fell asleep a few minutes later . We did end up giving some Tylenol. And that night he slept one if the longest stretches he ever has.

  • Baby boy was mildy fussy and clingy and was a little sore in his legs from the shots. He slept a bit more and just wanted to be held and cuddled. My little guy didn't have any diarrhea but my doctor warned of it being a possible side effect. He was great at the office when getting his shots and hardly fussed at all but that evening he started to have tenderness and that's when we gave him Tylenol. Hearing that very distinct painful cry about broke my heart! Other than that he was back to himself within 2 days.
  • LO slept most of the day but wasn't really cranky or fussy. Just tired.

  • DD had a little tenderness at the injection sites, but she didn't really seem like she was in pain so we never gave her Tylenol. She just slept a lot for a few days

  • Apparently my pediatrician must be in the minority here. I was told to not give my daughter Tylenol unless her fever got up to 100.4. They said giving her the medicine could affect the antibodies. I wish I was told differently though because my usually good sleeper was up every 2 hours last night!
  • My little guy screamed and cried actual tears for the first time with his shots. It was the first and last time I'll forget to give Tylenol before shots. Poor guy. :( he was very clingy for the rest of the day and extra fussy for about 2 days after. But did sleep pretty soundly!
  • We go in next week for 2mo check up and shots. Y'all are making me nervous!! My older kids never had any issues with their shots but I give Tylenol before we leave for the appt.

Actually dd1 had some localized swelling that worried me one time but she may have been 4mos and she was in a cast to correct her clubfoot and the swelling was pressing against the cast otherwise I wouldn't have worried about it.
  • She only cried a little during the shots. The rest of the day she slept really well... and she did eat a bit less, but was back to 'normal' the next day.

  • DS didn't cry for the first two in his legs but screamed bloody murder for the other two. I had a bottle ready to console him with. It took him a couple of minutes to calm down but he was totally chill after. I did give him the max dose of Tylenol for him half an hour before the appointment. I think it helped. He slept allllll afternoon and most of the evening. The next day he was extra fussy and clingy but didn't have any side effects.
  • LO cried murder every time he woke up after for the evening but slept a little extra.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image
  • We're on day three and things are just starting to get back to normal.

  • Like most people have said my LO was sore later that night. She would slowly move her leg, realize it hurt, and start crying like I've never heard her cry before it was so sad! I gave her tylenol and cuddled her to bed. She woke up around 1 am and was all smiles like she was relieved her leg didn't hurt anymore!
  • Oh man, my LO gets hers tomorrow morning. At least after reading all these I know what to expect. Sigh...

If you are comfortable giving your LO Tylenol, I recommend it about a half hour before the appt.

I completely understand if you don't want to give LO any medication or would be against it.
  • So far so good! She cried when given the shots, but she had her pacifier dipped in sugar water which seemed to help/distract her. I didn't have any Tylenol on hand this morning, so didn't give her any before. I picked some up on the way home, but my doctor also said only to give it if she gets a fever. She didn't reccomend it otherwise.

Now she is being all smiley in her swing. It's been a few hours and I'm sitting here waiting for my devil baby to show up. Maybe I'll get lucky.

  • We did ours yesterday morning! LO had a fever last night, but his fever is gone today and he is just sleepy and cuddly. I've gotten lots of baby smiles from him and am glad to see that he's slowly returning to his normal self.

The worst part was the way he looked at DH and I and screamed during the administration of the shots and right afterwards. It was as if he was asking us with his eyes why we would let something so painful happen to him. :(
  • We go next week for 2 months check & shots , I'm so worried .
It helps to read everyone's story , I will have tylonol on hand !
  • It was so much easier than I expected!!! DD cried and I nursed her to get her to calm down. No fever or redness and was just a little sleepier the day after. It was super sad to hear her whimper at night on the day of her shots (sore legs I'm assuming).

  • We just did ours today.. I've got a sleepy  baby who fusses quietly while awake and cries lightly(meaning tears sort of just stream from her eyes, I think she's too exhausted to really scream and cry loud).  She also got hit with the low fever. She screamed MURDER at the shots, DH heard them in the waiting room (he didn't have the stomach to stay with us, poor guy had tears in HIS eyes when we walked out to meet him and go home). She's also got a lowered appetite, spits up a ton, and is clingy as a baby can possibly be.

  • My LO got hers today too. She was pretty content for a couple hours after the appointment (after she calmed down from the shots). Then she slept 3 hrs, woke up crying inconsolably :( she ate a little between cries and I gave her some Tylenol, then she passed out again for 2 hrs. When she woke up she was much happier and almost back to normal. I gave her another dose right before bed and she just slept 6 hrs straight!
  • Our LO was totally fine - at first. He was his usually gabby, babbling, happy self. Then we went to my mom's which is an hour car ride away. He woke up and screamed bloody murder for almost 2 hours. It should be noted however, that he has since done this after other longer car rides, so it may have not been the shots that he was screaming about. :(

  • LO got hers this morning and has mapped most of the afternoon but cried in pain between naps and bottles. We gave her Tylenol after her first nap (about 4 hours after her shots) and I wish we had done it earlier. No fever, just seemed to have sore legs. I hope she's back to my smiley happy girl tomorrow. Tomorrow is my first day back to work so today made it even harder to get ready to leave her.
  • We had ours yesterday. He's refusing to eat more than 2 oz at a time. Hope he goes back to normal soon.
