So after day 4 of my chest cold not getting any better I actually started to get really bad really fast. I was having trouble breathing. My doctor is an hour away and I had a regular scheduled appointment yesterday. It took 2 hours to get there because of snow, my mom came with. I'm 14 weeks and my main concern was stress on the baby. I wanted to see my OBGYN before going to a physician. Baby sounded good. Heart rate was 165-170 The OB sent me straight to the clinic.
I have bronchitis and an ear infection. I'm on Albuterol through a nebulizer twice a day, Albuterol inhaler every 6 hours, and Pulmicort inhaler twice a day. I'm also on Amoxicillin for the ear infection and bronchitis which the clinic doctor thought could actually be bacterial and wanted to be safe.
The clinic doctor, my OB and the pharmacist all spoke with each other so I'm sure they collaborated well but I'm still so concerned. Yes, breathing and not cracking a rib is probably more important safety wise for baby, but that's A LOT of fricken medication. Albuterol is the one that has me the most concerned because of what it does to my heart and agitation level. It's also a class C drug.
The Questions:
Has anyone else had to do Albuterol through a nebulizer while pregnant?
Does anyone know if it speeds up baby's heart rate too? I can't find anything online.
Does anyone know what the actual risks are to baby with these medications beyond the extremely generic, "use with caution" listings?
Re: Bronchitis, that's what I needed.
I have moderate asthma that isn't well controlled when the seasons change. I take albuterol regularly.. Nebulizer and inhaler. I'm not sure if it speeds the babies heart rate. I have taken those, sudafed, robitussin... My blood pressure was a little elevated but the baby's heart rate was fine (I've been trying to get rid of some bug for a couple weeks). My steroid inhaler I have to take is also a Class C drug.
I have had asthma since I was 7 aka a long freaking time so bronchitis and I are best friends. Sometimes I just see which works better, inhaler or Nebulizer (pregnant or not). Maybe if you can go without one or stretch out the times you won't be as worried? I am on azithromycin antibiotic for 5 days. Hope you feel better asap!!
P.s. Maybe try Mucinex?
* I hadn't mentioned to her I was really concerned about cracking a rib and right after this posted she told me perhaps if I was worried, I could wear my cs abdominal binder.
