Food aversions

Why is it that I can't stand the food I used to enjoy before pregnancy??? I got a meatball sandwich from my favorite place yesterday and I took one bite and spit it out. I ended up giving the meatballs to my dog and growing the roll away. Also, tomatoes totally make me gag. It's so unfair. And I could eat mashed potatoes all day everyday. It makes no sense.

Re: Food aversions

  • Pregnancy man. It effs with your mind. My favorite meal is chicken cacciatore, but the thought of it makes me gag.

Six more months and we will be back to "normal" ;)

  • All my favorite foods I can't stand anymore I'm so sad but now I like fish and before that was the last thing I would order wth
  • This pregnancy has made me hate all food. It's completely made my appetite vanish. There are some days I forget to eat and don't realize until 8pm. Then I force feed myself while gagging on every bite. It's super fun.

  • I'm there with you! I want almost nothing sweet and sugary, but bring on the salty. My strongest aversion is to chicken--it's the one thing that consistently makes me sick. I even had vegetable fried rice from a restaurant last week that upset my stomach, before I realized that it was probably made with chicken broth. So it's definitely not just in my head!

  • I thought it was just me. I have a serious sweet tooth but now it makes me sick and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I keep trying. I can eat salty and spicy. I can eat hot tamales candy but that is about it. It sucks!
  • I feel your pain! Chicken and yogurt are sure to make me gag. The only thing that keeps my nauseau at bay is to eat every 2-3 hours. And not just eat a piece of fruit, something with more substance. Since nothing ever sounds that appealing, packing snacks for all day at work is a challenge. And forget about planning dinner, I just try to grab whatever is sounding not disgusting after work. Meal planning is so hard, more often than not whatever I bring makes me gag by lunch. Hoping my 6-7 small meal planning gets easier as time goes on because it's a job in itself these days!
  • When I'm pregnant I basically turn into a vegetarian-NOT by choice. Same thing happened when I was preg with DD. The thought of meat (unless maybe a ridiculously thin slice of chicken cutlet) makes me nauseous. I'm used to eating med-rare steaks. Now cooking any kind of meat for DH for dinner has me dry heaving. Oh except for bacon. I still LOVE bacon and could prob eat a pound of it if I let myself. Go figure
  • My first pregnancy I couldn't stand the smell or taste of oranges this time around its peanut butter the slightest smell of it I'm gagging
