Help me decide! (Stupid question)

Hey ladies. This is a super stupid question, but I want some different points of view then just DH and I. I want to find out the sex of the new baby before Christmas because I want to finally be able to announce and not keep it a secret anymore. Our anatomy scan isn't until December 29th though. DH doesn't see the point in finding out the sex the first week o December if we will have another ultrasound the last week of December. I understand how he feels and that it is frivolous to go find out at an elective scan. BUT damn it if I'm carrying this child I want to know and be able to spread the news soon. Also, the anatomy scan makes me nervous, and I don't want to be so worried about the scan and something going wrong that I won't be able to enjoy finding out the sex. Soooooo... what does A14 think?

I thought if you go too early any determination of sex is unreliable anyway. Am I wrong about that? I would just hate to have an extra US just for that purpose, make a big announcement and find out it was wrong.

Definitely true. I'd be 16w5d for an elective scan and 20 weeks for the a/s. It was right last time at 16 weeks, but of of course this is a different pregnancy and could turn out wrong. I didn't take that into consideration.

Maybe wait til the a/s and announce at New Year's?

Can you schedule your AS for a couple days before Christmas. I was 19 weeks 4 days for my AS.

They have no appts until after the 26th. I think I'm just going to do rock, paper, scissors with DH and whoever wins gets to choose. Yeah, that's how we make life decisions. Flipping coins and rock, paper, scissors.

They do electives for sex at 14 weeks around here. I was impatient for both mine and found out as soon as possible. I'd go for it. If it's hard to tell at that time you can always make sure at the next one. That's just my opinion.

Can you move your a/s up? I believe they will do a/s as early as 18 weeks?

Otherwise I would keep it and do a New Years announcement.

Can you just announce the pregnancy at Christmas and tell the sex when you find out?

We have the money (it is only $60) and I wouldn't be upset if it was wrong. We definitely won't be buying anything for a long time either. I selfishly just want to know and see my baby under non stressful terms. I'll probably schedule it ($25 down) and if we decide not to then I can get my money back. Overall I'm just being selfish and I do feel bad about it.

Since you said its relatively cheap and that you won't be super upset either way, I'd do it. If I could have I would have, but no place here does elective ultrasounds. But maybe wait to tell people the sex that way if they did get it wrong nobody will every know?

I'm a very impatient person and probably couldn't wait if this were me. I also think that since this is your current LO's first Christmas the focus should be on them rather than the announcement/sex of the baby. I'm a hypocrite and most likely would get to antsy and would find out.
