Anybody else stressing over naming your baby?

Yes, I know there is a baby name board. Anyway, trying to think up a name for #3 is hard! My older two boys names I picked out decades ago. ( literally) I have always loved both of their names and knew if I had kids I wanted it use their names. No name even begins to match with my other two boys names and no way do I even like a 3rd name near as much as their names. I'm stuck, completely stuck. I know I have lots of time it's just hard because the other two already had names at this point. So, anyone else bothered by not having a name yet or just stressing over a name in general?

Re: Anybody else stressing over naming your baby?

  • Out of curiosity, what are these amazing first two names that you speak of?
Not stressed. We picked ours out a few weeks ago. The hardest part was finding a name we both loved equally.
    We're going with Harrison.

  • I wouldn't say I'm super stressed, but I do worry about coming up with something DH and I love. We decided between two names right after DS was born and feel like we made the right choice with him. We aren't even talking about it very much until we know boy or girl next week, but so far we haven't liked either of each other's girl name suggestions. I guess I just assume we'll figure it out eventually!

  • Try looking at a few baby name books or just search top baby names! The boy name we have picked out was instant love however we're debating between 3 different girl names. However I'm not stressed because I don't really loveeee my name and my SO hates his name..sooo don't stress too much, we've both made it through life with boring names even though we're far from boring haha!
  • I just found out Tuesday were having a boy. We had a girl name picked out as soon as I got my BFP but nada on a boy. I'm not stressed, yet but I will be if I can't come up with something soon. It doesn't help that my MIL asks for updates every 12 hours.

  • We have a girl's name picked but no boy's name although I do have a list of my top choices. But no, I am definitely not stressed about choosing a name.

  • Yes, naming #3 is going to be tough. We only use family names so that narrows down our choices.

  • We haven't discussed names yet. We are waiting until we find out the sex (which is today) We have a girl's name from our first pregnancy but if baby # 2 is another boy it probably will be stressful. Picking out a boys name was so hard for us the 1st time.
  • I was a little stressed finding a name for our son, but not this time. All along I thought I would fall in love with a name and just know it was the one. It didn't happen! I was just ok with the name we picked, but now can't imagine my son with a different name. You will repeat the name at least 50 times a day!

  • No, I'm not stressed yet. Start reading through names. Go to the social security database and start reading. There are other name sites as well. Nameberry I think?
  • We picked our names already now just waiting on the sex.  But it was a struggle.  We tried for over a year and a half, and the whole time we talked about names and fought.  So yes I was stressed.  But then it just came to us.  Pretty excited to use the names we picked actually.

  • We had our boy and girl name picked out right away. Now I'm second guessing the girl name because I'm not sure it flows right with our last name. We find out the sex in a few weeks, I guess I'll stress then.

  • I am so stressed about boy #2's name. I wouldn't say it was easy picking my first son's name but it did happen quick, right around the time of my AS. So for some reason that makes me feel behind now, even though there's still plenty of time.
  • Harrison is super cute! It might just be the whole naming a third.. So hard! It's encouraging to hear though even if the baby's name isn't my favorite it'll grow on me. I look at websites all the time. All of them. I'd prefer for the name not to be in the top 100 for social security. My first son's name has soared in popularity since he was born. It was 209 when I named him and now it's number 53. :/ Anyway. I guess I'll tell you both of the boys names O liver and E lliott. They both start with vowels, are three syllables and are very classic names. Alistair kinda fits with them but I'm not in love with Alistair. We've been calling the little one A nsel but I'm not sold on it. I'm basically at square one. Just nothing I love at all. Just hard when I've had the other 2 names picked out since Jr high.. And I'm old! Haha My Jr High self should have picked a 3rd name darn it! I'm open to any suggestions! Thanks!
  • P.S. how do I get my paragraphs to be separate and not one big paragraph? They always run together them I post but I separate when I type. Annoying!
  • Nothing sounds/feels right, but I'm not stressed yet. It was the same way with DD. The perfect name will come to us eventually.

Yes! So stressing over it! We need to find a name that works in 2 languages, is not attached to anyone we already know, needs to have some sort of meaning and not give the kid impossible initials! Naming a child is a HUGE responsibility!
This and my family is very opinionated. Very annoying.

  • We have a list of names we like but can't decide on.  I wouldn't say I am stressing.  I will probably stress if we haven't decided by the time she is born.

Choosing names is hard. I haven't even thought about it with this one yet. We will probably start after the anatomy scan so we don't have to think of bay and girl names.

There is a section for sibling names on https://www.babynamewizard.com. You can type in your child's names and it gives you a list of similar names. I think there is something similar on nameberry.

  • I get what you mean. Our sons name (Nolan) was so easy because nothing else we considered even compared in our eyes. We chose both a boy and girl name before we found out the sex and the second boy name was equally easy to choose, but a girl name was so hard for me! Even when I found one I liked, I worried there was something out there that I like more and just hadn't considered. After years (yes, years) of considering names, I was finally confident that nothing new was going to come along and blindside me if i chose a girl name.

So my advice is just spend a lot of time researching and take your time deciding. If you do enough research, you will know you have found the right one.

  • There are a few names I like with my daughters name but the name my husband and I like best goes in a total opposite direction of her name. And if it is a boy, my husband wants to name him after himself. I hate that. Its not even a family name. So I'm trying not to think about it for now! Good luck!
  • When we were naming our 2nd DD it was hard. We loved our 1st DD name so much. Nothing was matching up. I went into labor and we still didn't haeva name. We were throwing a few around, but nothing was sticking. When she was born. We both knew what to call her, there was no stress. We are having a DS now. So his name has been on our boys list for years when I was pregnant with my 2 DD's. It was an easy pick.
  • Not stressed really, but a little anxious. We've picked out a name for a boy and a girl, but I'm mostly worried about defending them to everyone. We like rarely used names, and I know we're going to get some negative reactions
  • I'm totally freaking out.  Every time I try to get DH to talk about it, he jokes around and suggests names that are totally not our style.  It's clearly a joke because he goes way overboard on the names and clearly aren't valid choices.  But I'd really like to have a serious discussion about it.  Maybe I'm just rushing things.  I guess we discussed names much sooner for baby 1, and now he's just not really focused on this one.

When we do pick a name though, we aren't sharing it with family until the baby comes out and is named.  We didn't enjoy the opinions we got with our choices last go around.

  • There's a website, magicbabynames.com, that is super helpful and a lot of fun! You can type in a name you like and it comes up with similar names. We've used it and found a lot of good names to consider. We're current torn between Harrison and Connor. We know the middle name will be Joseph, after my dad.
  • We haven't even discussed names yet. With our son we had narrowed our name list down to 5 and went into delivery figuring we would just know the name when we met him. We didn't. We took him home from the hospital as Baby S___. We finally knew  his name was on day 9. He didn't know the difference, and our families were just happy to hold the baby.
Take time to listen, read baby name books, hang out on naming boards and just start compiling a list of names you think are nice.

You have 10 days to get the birth certificate finalized before you have to pay a fee, so don't stress yet, you have a lot of time +10 days.
  • We don't find out the sex until Monday, so I'm saving stress until at least after that. We have about 5 girl names that we both agree on, but only one boy name that we feel 80% about. Time will tell! I looked at nameberry last night though for fun and found it helpful! I like seeing how popular or uncommon names are.

Love it! Time plus 10 days! That'll be me this time!!
  • DH and I were able to decide on a boy's name pretty easily.. although we disagree a bit on the spelling, I don't think that's a huge issue.

Our problem is with girl's names. I love classic, maybe more vintage-style names with meanings.. Evelyn, Vivian, Delilah. He consistently thinks of negative associations with each of them. It can be frustrating..we have a name that we like, and I think he'd go with, Harper, but I'm just not 100% yet. I really like the other names more.

  • PinkDahLia44  I LOVE the name Nolan and am considering it for DS #2 (our first son is Landon).  We had the HARDEST time picking a boys name last time and this time we just can't seem to agree on anything.  We had a ton of girls names we both loved....so yes I'd say I'm stressing a little bit

  • We had our girl name picked out right away, but couldn't agree on a boy name for the life of us! Thankfully it doesn't look like we will have to worry much about a boy name anyways! I had my oldest sons name picked for a long time and now there are way too many with his name, but that's the way it works lol. With my second, my ex husband picked his name and I still love it! I have a Landon and a Brady and our new baby will likely be McKenna (if the next dr appt shows the same as the last one)!

  • I wasn't stressed all with the other 2. They were named 2 decades before the were born. Poor nameless #3!
  • Not stressed over here. We have a boy and girl name since we're team green. But we have other names that we really like as well and one of them is considered unisex, although it's seen mostly on girls. If we decide to go with this name for our 2nd, it might be a flub

  • I'm not stressed at all. Not long after we found out about this baby we discussed both boy and girl names. We'll discuss it again after we find out the sex. With DS we did the same thing, but we don't name the baby until we see it. Good thing because our DS would have been William instead of Alec and he isn't at all a William!
