Baby Names

Rhyming name. Cute or Cruel?

Our last name rhymes with McBaby. We LOVE the name Katie.
Katie McBaby.

Is this mean? I've almost facebook-messaged girls with the same name to see if they got made fun of growing up. :)

Me: 30; DH: 32
Married since 3/15/08.
Pregnancy 1: BFP on 1/24/11 - Molly born on 10/6/11!
Pregnancy 2: BFP on 11/5/14 - Baby #2 due on 7/17/15!
In between pregnancies, I've grown to love my "other" baby. The "carb baby", that's taken permanent residence in my belly, thanks to my overzealous love of bread, pasta and pastries. Hence my name. :)

Re: Rhyming name. Cute or Cruel?

  • The McBaby thing seems way mean but I just can't picture what rhymes with that, lol!
    Maybe Katherine?
  • I know people who have that rhyme-styling to their names and as far as I know, it wasn't a huge issue.

  • Katie McBaby doesn't rhyme so I don't know how close your last really name is. If the name in question were something like Madison Jackson, Avery McCavery, or Katie McBaty then yeah not a good idea. You don't want her name to sound like someone singing the  "name game".

Name her Katherine, call her Katie. Let her go by Kate, Kat, or Katherine if she wants. But if it truly does rhyme with your last name then consider other options entirely.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking.... It actually rhymes with McBaty, so Katie McBaty is a no go.

  • I wouldn't do it. DH loves the name Margot but it rhymes with our last name so it's out. It sounds like a cartoon character.

  • I knew of a Salina Molina, she got teased. I probably would not choose a rhyming name.

  • I have friends growing up with sing-song names;  I always loved them.  Of course then they get married and they lose the sing-song :-)

  • You shouldn't name your daughter Katie regardless of last name because it's a cutesy, familial, diminutive of a real name (Katherine, though Caitlyn and Kate can stand alone in a pinch).

Katherine McBaby is lovely, as is Kate McBaby, you can call her Katie when she's little, but think about the grown women you know who were Katies as kids - I doubt any of them go by Katie professionally.

Lol I knew a Tina Molina. It was her married name. Poor gal.
  • Don't do it. Awful.
