Measuring further along?

I had my 12 wk apt at 12w4d. according to dr, I am measuring at 13w5d. At my 8wk apt, I measured exactly 8wks. Not sure exactly what this means, except obviously the baby is bigger than average? I am 100% certain of my last period, so I know Im not off according to dates. So I guess my question is this - even though the baby is measuring big, is it further along developmentally? And does this mean my due date could be moved up? Thanks for all the help! I wasn't clear with my questions to the dr and got flustered after seeing the sonogram :)

Re: Measuring further along?

  • I hope I can help you out, or this thread can help me out tomorrow. I'm going for a dating ultrasound tomorrow. ..at 14 wks! I know my period dates but my cycles have been different since I had a mc in April. If anything, I'm further along than 14 wks ny guess. ..

    Sorry I'm no help!

Likely, you had your sono at the end of one.

Also, if the tech was off at all - that will skew your measurements.  If baby consistently measures big, they may have you do the GD test early, to rule that out (typically GD moms have bigger babies).

  • They probably won't change anything unless your measuring 2 weeks or more ahead. I measured 11 weeks when I was 12w3d. Had an ultrasound right after and the baby measured 12w5d.

  • My sister in law measured further along at every visit with both of her pregnancies. She delivered healthy babies each on their due date. They were over 9 pounds, but healthy!
  • DD measured ahead and then on track and then ahead, repeat repeat all throughout my last pregnancy. If the tech or dr is off in their measurements or if baby is in a weird position that could impact measurement dates.
This one measured a week ahead one week, and then one day ahead the next. If your dr. gets concerned about possible GD, they will let you know.
