TTC after 35

Sister had baby last night.

So far all is well with him. I got to see him late last night and he looks perfect just super tiny. 3lbs 15 oz.

He is breathing on his own so far. In the NICU in the incubator. Being fed through NG tube. Sister is going to pump tonight so he will start getting her milk. Hopefully that fattens him up quickly.

Thank you all for your t&p. She was able to keep him baking 5 extra days and the steroids seem to have done wonders.

My heart breaks for her that she has to leave him there but I'm greatful that he is as healthy as he is.

Re: Sister had baby last night.

  • I'm glad your nephew is doing so well and was able to bake an extra five days.  Will you guys get to see him much? It might help to someone around your sister.  I made the mistake of thinking I would be okay and found out the first 2 days were really hard and being by myself made it worse.  My mom stayed with me the 2nd day and it helped.  Good luck in the upcoming days.

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Sending good thoughts! Glad he's doing well under the circumstances. Hope he continues to grow big and strong!

  • Glad he is ok. Hopefully he'll just be a "feeder and a grower" (i think that's what they still call them when they are tiny but everything else is perfect). :) Awesome that she was able to keep him in for those 5 days! We are all cheering for him.

  • Congratulations on being an aunty! Glad your sister gets to start pumping. If I could give any advice I'd stay to overpump and overstimulate in the beginning. She can start freezing right away and build up a supply which could be helpful later when she's able to bring home her LO. It will be against nurses directives but I kinda figured better an oversupply than undersupply. Anyway, that was totally unsolicted so I'll just leave with another Congrats!

  • Glad that he's okay, and your sister can start pumping. Crossing my fingers that he's quick to grow and gain strength.
  • Congrats to you and your family! Hope he keeps getting stronger with mama's milk!
  • My sister was discharged today but went right back to the hospital after she got home. Baby is still doing well.
She couldn't wait to not be a patient so she could focus on the baby. She had so many questions that she hadn't asked. Now it's all about the baby. She will be able to do skin on skin when his umbilical iv gets taken out. I hope they can do that soon.
I'm hoping to get back to the hospital tomorrow.

  • @TripMomma did any of the trips have to be on a vent. Nephew was intubated last night, he had pneumothorax. Dr said he is still doing well.
He hadn't been able to feed yet but nurses said they would start rubbing his lips with my sisters breast milk so he can start getting her antibodies.
All the nurses and drs seem to be awesome so far.

  • So sorry to hear this @hooligans4.  I know your question wasn't directed to me, but I wanted to let you know that being intubated is completely within the realm of normal for his gestation.  Especially with a pneumothorax.  Term babies with "pneumos" can sometimes get by without intubation, but preterms just don't have the chest wall musculature to deal with the collapsed lung AND breathe effectively.  Big hugs to you and your sister.  I'm sure that was a little overwhelming for her.  I'm so happy your little nephew's care team is awesome.  :)

  • Thank you for answering @Heath&Jas
I hate asking my sister a million questions because she is going through so much.
The dr. Said the vent he is on is the Mercedes of ventilators because it shoots out small puffs. The dad appreciated the reverence to cars.

I don't know what I would do without this amazing board. Thank you!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear little man is having some trouble. I'm sure the medical staff are amazing and will get him going in the right direction.

The trio did not need more than room air CPAP, for 4 days.

I am keeping him in my thoughts, please keep us posted.
