This is my third pregnancy and last. Want to experience a water birth. Heard good things. My second was all natural and want to do the same with this one but make it as comfortable as It can be. Wanting to know anyone who has experience a water birth and what you thought. Also if all hospitals and doctors offer it. Thanks!
I am not personally planning one. If I were you, I'd look into a birthing center instead of a hospital. I know my hospital only has 1 room with a tub and you can only labor it in, not give birth. I know all hospitals are different though.
My 2nd DD was a water birth, i would highly recommend it! It was the most amazing experience.
I agree with @starshallow the hospital are very limited, and normally will not let you give birth in the tub. You would have to call your hospital to check. I delivered in a birthing centre, you can labor and deliver in the tub. Your OB should be able to tell you where your local birthing centre is.
I do not have any personal experience regarding this. However my best friend has three children. The first was in a hospital setting and received Pitocin, epi., etc. The second was in a hospital but all natural delivery. The third baby she had at home in a certain tub that her MW provided. She said that her last birth was the smoothest and easiest on her body. She did not rip at all like she did with the first two. Have you watched The Business of Being Born? you will learn a lot on the difference of hospitals/birthing centers/ home births.
I had a waterbirth with my DD at a birth center and it was amazing and this is my plan again. As for the hospital route, I know of a couple hospitals around here who have a select few tubs in their "birth centers" but I do believe they will have you get out before the actual delivery (to me that defeats the whole purpose of a true waterbirth).
Loved my water birth (at a birth center)! Also loved just laboring in a tub--so try it whatever level access your provider allows. I plan to try a tub birth again with baby #2!
