Screaming during diaper changes

Is anyone else's LO hating diaper changes? Mine screams as soon as we set her down on the changing table. We have tried changing her on different surfaces, but as soon as she realizes what is happening the screaming starts. She is also like this during clothing changes too. Hoping it goes away soon!

Re: Screaming during diaper changes

  • The past few weeks most diaper changes are torture and God forbid that I try to dress/undress him. He used to love having his butt getting cleaned.
  • Loading the player...
  • Not screaming but she doesn't like it; I'll sing to her to distract her which seems to help
  • No screaming but insists on rolling off. I strap him in now and he still tries to flip over.
  • Yup, red faced screaming with tears during clothing changes. LO is currently pants-less at the moment because it wasn't worth the fight. He also hates having his face and hands wiped after eating. So far, diaper changes are still ok.

"Oh Eli, there's a sanctity in your innocence. A certain beauty and no uncertain strength that brings me to the faith. I don't know if I am climbing to or falling in, but it comes like grace from your tiny hands when I hold you in mine." - Eli's Song

  • I read the same thing in the wonder weeks book. Wish I knew why because its making motn changes rough. She waking up a lot but she's a pretty heavy wetter so I can't leave it. Hopefully it won't last long.

  • Thanks! Glad to know we aren't alone! I read the same thing in the wonder weeks but I thought she was past that already. Guess not!
  • The only time he cries during diaper/clothes change is right after the bath. It has always been like that and I think it's more from being over tired than anything else.

Same here. If he's fussy other times, I'll spin the ceiling fan, sing songs, or tickle him. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
  • Yes!!!!! For a couple of weeks now... And more at bedtime after I put lotion on and and I'm about to dress him in his pj's

  • Yep. It's a wrestling match and he's sure I'm killing him. Such a big boy cry though.. I watched a video the other day of the months ago "you're not feeding me fast enough" meltdown and it's crazy how much his tantrums have matured!
  • The only time mine really gets mad about this is at bed time when she's tired and in the MOTN when she really just wants to be cuddled or eat and I have to change her. Singing usually gets her to stop.

My DS hated diaper and clothing changes and screamed no matter what. I just had to get through it as quickly as possible. I honestly can't remember how long it lasted.

  • Yup hates it and moves around = mom hates it
  • The screaming and crying at Jammie time really makes me hate all those snaps even more- especially when she is kicking and scooting away and rolling over!
  • No screaming, just rolling.
