Wondering if any of your husbands go to appointments (pre IUI or IFV) with you

crusch8crusch8 member
edited October 2014 in Infertility

This is our first time stimming. I've had 2 U/S and bloodwork. I have another appointment tomorrow for another U/S and my husband mentioned he wanted to come since it's on the weekend and he is avaiable. I told him I didnt think it was really necessary since it's just an U/S. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has had their husbands come with them when they've had U/S. Is that normal? I know he's just trying to be supportive. But I thought it maybe could be a bit odd?

My sweet husband asks to be supportive too, but I just don't think it's necessary at all. I do see several husbands there though.

Mine only comes to consults and when he's actually required to do something. If I wanted him to come he would, usually I don't.

My hubby never went to any of my appts. except for ER. He did not do the consult or ET appts because he wasn't really interested and we didn't really need him there. This upcoming FET he will be even less involved, as we already have our embryos and I'm the only one who needs to be there for monitoring and actual ET.

He is, however, very involved when he needs to be regarding my injects. He administered my trigger like a pro last time, and has offered to do all of my IM PIO shots for this upcoming FET, bless him. I said I could learn to do it myself, but I think he feels that's about the only way he can be actively involved in our baby making! :\">

My spouse used to come to every single appointment/ultrasound etc but as things dragged on and on and on and on, we've decided that she'll just come to the important appointments

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

My DH did something similar last cycle when my u/s fell on a weekend. He said he wanted to see what I had been talking about. I think it made everything very real when he saw the follicles too. this cycle we had a weekend appt and he said he would go if I needed him to, but he definitely wasn't as stoked as the first cycle. I think its cool for husband's to want to be involved!

My hubby came to all the apts he could, he wanted to be a part of it and I wasn't going to deny the company. If he wasn't there, my mom went with me on a few occasions. My office does the bloodwork and U/S then you sit down with a nurse and talk about the results, how things are going, sizes, levels, ect. It always helped to have a second ear and someone to remember to ask the questions I would forget to ask. Also my office was almost 2 hrs away so having someone go with me made the drive better.

He's come for the consults, ER and the weekend monitoring appointments. The ETs have always falling on days where he has a lot if meetings he can't easily get out of. I love having his support though on the times he does go.
  • Options
Absolutely have him come!! If he wants to come the better to have that support with you. My DH has been going through multiple SA's to figure out the low sperm count and I have been there with him and vice versa. Remember your a team throughout this process. The more support from him the better. My poor DH has wanted a baby with me since before we got engaged. Ugh nothing but a challenging difficult heartbreaking journey for us. Best of luck to you and your DH!!

My DH only came to Consults, ER and ET since he was driving. But for all the monitoring he was home sleeping. He did offer to come but i said it is only BW and US.
  • Options
My DH comes with me to monitoring appts he happens to have the day off, so really only the weekends. He comes to all ET and ER appointments though. He likes to be there as much as he can which i love.
  • Options
My DH comes with me if he's off work, so he's probably come a handful of times during monitoring.  An u/s tech does my scan so unless they turn the monitor in my direction, I have no idea what the results are until later that day.  I taught DH how to interpret the measurements and last time he sat there and actually counted my follicles.

Mine came to our consult, ER, and will be at ET. He offered to take off work and come to every single monitoring appointment, which was sweet I guess but I told him it was silly - no sense taking sick time for our super long drive for a 15 minute bloodwork and US appointment. I had two weekend monitoring appointments, and he came to both of those. I think he thought it was kind of cool to see the ultrasound. I had to laugh at the first one because he just sat in the chair behind the screen like a church mouse until the US tech told him, "Get up! Don't you want to see your wife's beautiful follicles?" I think he was embarassed, haha.

My DH comes sporadically. During the beginning of first cycle he came to all consults and preliminary u/s. Once I got through the first 3 monitoring appts I told him to skeedaddle. He didn't need to be there for the bloods or u/s.  He comes on the weekend monitoring appts because we generally go to the diner for breakfast after. He came to the u/s right before the retrieval and was at all ER and ET's. He did come to every u/s appt once I got pregnant, although those didn't last, it was nice having him there.

DH never even met our first RE! (We were living 4 hours apart because of work.) He comes to all big appointments now, and goes to most of the MFI-related appointments on his own. He asked me if I wanted him to come to monitoring the first time, and I told him that he was welcome to if he wanted to, but I was OK with going on my own. ER was the first time he'd seen what a TVUS was like, and he was very glad that he hadn't gone to any monitoring! (Mind you, there aren't normally a dozen people in the room while you're laying there with your legs in the air...)

My DH only came to the consults.  He wasn't even at ER or ET because he is out of vacation days and would have had to be docked the days.  My mom offered to come with me so I would have someone with me.

  • Options
My DH goes to whatever he can. His work schedule gets a bit crazy at certain times of the year. But he was there for every IUI we did and he's always gone to an ultrasound/consult appointments. My RE requires both parties be there for any consult and WTF appointments, so he won't have a choice. But he is very good about wanting to be a part of this as much as he possibly can be.
  • Options
My husband came on the weekend appointments and said it was for me, but the reality is it was for him which is more than ok.  I think it can be hard for them to feel like they are involved, doing enough, and understanding what we go through when we go through these appointments.  I let him go to whatever he wanted, except for the big appointments when I made it quite clear I really needed him there (ER and ET).

My dh and I have been ttc for almost a year now. We started seeing a fertility specialist in July, after finding out I have quite a few issues. We did 3 IUIs and no luck so we're in the beginnings of IVF now. He has actually never missed even one appointment. We've had over 30 at this point and the closest office is 45 mins away. If it's a weekend, we're driving 90 mins each way. He says it's the least he can do since I'm the one being poked and prodded every time. It really is unnecessary, but it shows he cares and I like having him there too. We always get the earliest possible appointment so we both work a little later that day to make up the time and not use sick leave.

If your dh wants to come along, I say let him! He's just trying to be supportive.
Me: 27 yrs old. Arcuate uterus, very short luteal phases (even with progesterone supp.), naturally long irregular cycles, poor response to all IF meds

12/14: 1st IVF, BFN. 6 eggs retrieved. 5 fertilized. 1 transferred. Two frozen embryos
2/15: 1st FET scheduled. Cautiously optimistic.
